AIBU?

To take my 80 year old mum to see the Book of Mormon

I'm taking my mum out for the day for her birthday. She likes a show and a laugh but is the Book of Mormon likely to be too much for an 80 year old. I have been accused of being deliberately controversial in the past. Any other recommendations?

Matilda?

Book of Mormon only if she also likes South Park and Team America...not for the easily shocked.

I think she is quite broad minded but probably better to play safe

It's very, very funny. And not as rude as Jerry Springer the Opera which I took my dh's granny too (she was 86).

Honestly it's hilarious, and there were plenty of elderly people laughing uproariously in the audience.

It's also charming too and done very tongue in cheek, you'd struggle to take offence IMO.

It had a massive standing ovation when we went on an ordinary matinee in the autumn, not seen so much delight for a while.

Book of Mormon is not close to the mark, it's so far over the mark, it's a faint dot on the horizon.

It's very funny but I found some of it extremely uncomfortable- and I'm a reasonably broadminded woman half her age.

It is hands down the best and funniest thing I have ever seen, but OMFG it's eye wateringly close to the mark in parts. You do need to very broad minded and not easily offended. And preferably not religious.

I took my mum and she loved it but she's much younger than yours, of a different generation in fact.

Saw it at end of January but only you know your Mum. No way would I take my MIL, who is 80, as she attends church and I don't think the big cocks and Fuck you God would go down well at all!!

Ask her if she wants to see it?

I found it very funny but if lines like "fuck you God in the ass" several times over in a song along with appropriate (or inappropriate?) actions are likely to offend... best not.

I have been with my Mum who is a similar age. She cried laughing all the way through.

Book of Mormon was one of the best days of my life. I've followed South Park from the beginning and even I was fairly shocked.

Do it! As long as your mum doesn't mind the c word, aids jokes, and people having maggots in their scrotum.

My 90 year old grandma loved Ted, which is pretty risqué but not on BoM's level. My 60 year old mum went to see BoM and thought it was brilliant, which was a relief because I'd recommended she see it and thought she might find it gratuitously offensive.

Lots of stuff about cutting off clitorises and fucking god in the cunt...

I am quite broadminded but even I was a bit shocked at some of it. Saying that it was hilarious, had fab music, and I would like to see it again.

DH thought it mosrly funny but he is a bit religious and I think he found it very offensive at times.

You know what your MIL is like. I wouldn't take her if she is at all religious.

It's so very offensive.
Funny, but offensive.

I must be the only person I know who didn't find it especially funny. Sure it's offensive but your DM was brought up through all of the Monty Python, Pete and Dudley stuff so if she amused by rude songs she'll love it.

I hunk it was so over hyped and being utterly hilarious I just kind of sat and felt slightly let down.

It's brilliant but massively takes the piss out of religion and the language is pretty extreme so if any of those offend, I wouldn't. Otherwise, it's fab! Go for it!

I don't like South Park. I loved Book of Mormon, but it's very very near the knuckle.

I've booked tickets for July to see Mischief Theatre, The Play that Goes Wrong. They did Peter Pan goes Wrong that was on TV over Christmas. She might prefer that?

It is absolutely brilliant and hilarious, I loved it! But it is VERY rude!

I'm with you Matilda, I thought it was a load of crap and felt really disappointed with it!

I don't think the average 80 year old would enjoy it...

"I've got maggots in my scroooootum"

"Some people in his tribe believe having sex with a virgin will cure their AIDS. There aren't many virgins left, so some of them are turning to babies!"

It is probably my fave musical though Grin

However, can I just say, my husband has got rather annoying by coming home and standing in the middle of the room waving going 'Hello' like Arnold

I loved the Book of Mormon.

But yeah, it's not for everyone. Lyrics include "Fuck you God in the ass, mouth and cunt".

Absolutely hilarious. Extremely offensive.

I wouldn't take my 80 year old mum to be honest
