To miss perms?!

I grew up in the 80's and had a few perms over the years and loved them! My DC of course piss themselves at the pictures but a perm was the best thing ever! (Do you remember the first hair wash after getting it done, so nerve-wracking in case they all fell outGrin)
So this morning I was driving into work and this older schoolboy was walking along with the most magnificent head of tight curls blowing in the wind Grin I'm pretty sure it was natural (men don't do perms anymore surely) but it brought back fond memories of my yoof.

What fabulous hair styles did you crazy MN'ers have back in the day?!

It's back in fashion for teen boys!

AlexanderBerry · 20/02/2017 18:41

I had loads in the 80s. I remember when you first had ot done it was super bushy but then it settled down a bit. I used to dye my hair too and it made it soooo dry.

Not many salons do them now.

Really? Good lord! I really can't imagine a teen boy sat under a lamp with rollersGrin

80's why don't they do them anymore?

17 here- someone I know has one and looks incredible. I want one, but don't think I'd be able to pull it off! I definitely think they're coming back a bit

Mine looked fabulous. A nice tight permed mullet type thing. As it grew out the bottom stayed Curley and the top was straight and plastered down. Lovely.

CrochetQueenfromCoventry · 20/02/2017 18:54

It most certainly is back. I'm a teacher and the boys all seem to be getting the same hair do. It's short at the back and sides with a massive spaghetti perm thing on the top that covers their forehead!!! I wonder where the trend came from. Footballer? Reality TV personality?

latedecember1963 · 20/02/2017 20:25

My DM has never lost her love of a perm and despairs of my "straight as a yard of pump water" hair. Occasionally wonder about having a perm again but prefer to use a Babyliss curling machine for the times I crave curls.

Madeyemoodysmum · 20/02/2017 21:05

Lol. That's sounds amazing. Anyone got any pics of this new craze.

user1487622505 · 20/02/2017 21:07

Oh I had the loveliest corkscrew perm at 15. I loved it.

TheProblemOfSusan · 20/02/2017 21:13

I was never allowed a perm. If I could be arsed with styling I would definitely have a go.

Willow2016 · 20/02/2017 21:13

I would love to get a perm again (minus the stink!). I had many during the 80s normal perms, spiral perms as I loved curly/twirly hair. Had short and long haired perms.

My hair is almost at my bum and needs a trim but I am so tempted to ask if they still do perms Blush I havent time in the morning to use tongs it would take hours! (and cant afford a Babyliss Sad)

I wash it at night and french plait it when I can be bothered and its lovely in the am.

Salmotrutta · 20/02/2017 21:19

It's definitely a trend with teenage boys at the moment - exactly as described by CrochetQueen!

I'm a teacher too so I see lots of them all over the place - many of them look like Shaun the Sheep very nice...

Is this the style?

IdaDown · 20/02/2017 21:30

It was the mid eighties.
I was 15.
I wore glasses.
I looked like Dedrie Barlow.

Polkadot1974 · 20/02/2017 21:34

I wanted Julia Roberts but got Audrey Roberts with my perms. Hideous looking back but would still love some volume in my otherwise lank locks

Madeyemoodysmum · 20/02/2017 21:36

Think that must be the style petty woman. You have to be a confident lad to pull off that do!

Madeyemoodysmum · 20/02/2017 21:39

Sorry pretty not petty 😀

I think some salons like Toni and guy do new style light perms but they only last a few weeks

ReggaeShark · 20/02/2017 22:31

I loved my perms. Then I had a pixie cut that stood up on top. Always fancied a "coupe sauvage" (remember that?) but never had one.

DJBaggySmalls · 20/02/2017 22:34

I tried a perm but my hair wont take it. I was gutted. I had crimpers instead.
