No googling allowed.

Answer is here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whangee

But I'm really interested to know how many people knew this without looking it up?

Please be honest.

Hadn't a clue.

Pleased to know now though. I will add it to my collection of useless information grin

I have a teapot with a whangee handle, so I did know. But only recently!

I'd expect it to be some sort of tool related to cars. Maybe to attach to a jack or wheel bolt unfastener.

I knew, because in one of the books featuring my namesake he refers to picking up a "whangee" (meaning a cane in that case). Wouldn't have known otherwise!

No, but I believe we have one in our house!

BrownEyedLady Sun 19-Feb-17 21:14:05

Aaah! Now I know. It's a nice word to say!

MrsBobDylan Sun 19-Feb-17 21:14:16

Not heard of it before...what a great word!

Euphemia Sun 19-Feb-17 21:14:45

No idea!

Seeingadistance Sun 19-Feb-17 21:17:07

Had no idea!

Yeah, of course, it's a thingy, isn't it? A whajamacallit. Everyone knows that. Like a whassit handle, but more whangee.

BroomstickOfLove Sun 19-Feb-17 21:17:53

I knew it was a sort of cane walking stick because of Peter Wimsey and Bertie Wooster, but I didn't know that it applied to other things made from the same plant, such as umbrella and tea-pot handles.

Delighted it's not just me in my ignorance!

I have seen many whangee handles but never knew they were called whangee handles.

Tis indeed a great word!

BabychamSocialist Sun 19-Feb-17 22:21:17

Me! If I'm right, it's sort of like a bamboo nobbly looking thing, right? I only know because I spent way too long as a child watching episodes of The Avengers and Steed's umbrella had one!

I remembered reading it in Jeeves & Wooster and looked it up then. But then forgot again, until this grin
