I really hate my neighbours

I really hate my neighbours, we've fallen out. They have complained about our noise etc several times. We are a perfectly normal but busy/sociable family. We're self employed and own a well know successful business in our local town. When I see them it makes be feel really pissed off!! I feel I can't go about daily life without feeling stressed incase I meet them out the front. Moving is not happening as I'm lucky enough to live in HA housing in a very sought after area. Just wondering how people who hate their neighbours go about their day to day lives without the neighbours affecting their life/moods etc! I really hate confrontation too!!

Invest in some big headphones and wear them to and from the car then if they try to start any confrontation you can just sing away and smile. .

helpimitchy · 19/02/2017 19:56

If your business is well known and successful then you should free up the HA house for someone that needs it and buy your own home.

Funny enough WISH, I've already thought of that, but I'm not a youngster and wondered if I'd look like a dickhead to be honest!

HELP, I really don't want to go into this on this thread!

Why mention the business if it isn't relevant? Hmm

HighwayDragon1 · 19/02/2017 20:02

How "sociable" ?

Gizlotsmum · 19/02/2017 20:02

How noisey are you? How late do you make the noise?

Crispbutty · 19/02/2017 20:03

Are they justified in complaining about the noise you make do you think?

PidgeyfinderGeneral · 19/02/2017 20:03

I have to say, it rather sounds like you are the problem based on your OP.

Wishiwasmoiradingle2017 · 19/02/2017 20:03

Wouldn't they look the dh talking to you when you clearly couldn't hear tho??

jcne · 19/02/2017 20:03

odd Hmm

plastique · 19/02/2017 20:04

I mentioned it, just as a bit of info into the kind of people we are

YABU to hate people who ask you to be considerate. Doesn't sound like they've done anything wrong to me.

Rhayader · 19/02/2017 20:05

How often do you have people over? Weeknights? How late? Music?

I've complained about loud neighbours before.

flowersalloverme · 19/02/2017 20:06

HA with a very successful business in a naice area?

Keep your head down and your powder dry!

I'm sure you got the property all fair and square, but think about it, the neighbours might not think so, and thus the often times backlash.

SomewhereNow · 19/02/2017 20:06

Sorry but if you're making enough noise that your neighbours need to complain - well there's a chance they're just really picky but are you sure it's not you? One person's 'sociable' could easily be another's 'inconsiderate and intrusive'.

helpimitchy · 19/02/2017 20:06

'The kind of people we are' What does that mean?

MontePulciana · 19/02/2017 20:08

How do you get a council house and run a successful business? Aren't they for needy people? Genuine question. Not trying to be funny.

helpimitchy · 19/02/2017 20:08

Do you have loud hot tub parties in the back garden?

Bananamama1213 · 19/02/2017 20:08

I hate my neighbours. We live on the end house so only have one side, thankfully. Our bedrooms are on the opposite side of the house so don't have to put up with any bedroom noises either!

But since they moved in, they drill EVERYDAY! Up until 9-10 at night, but start early on weekends. My uncle lives on the other side of them and we text when they start up from annoyance haha.

One night they had a party. Knowing full well that there are children either side. (I went out to greet them when they moved in and I saw them outside). This party went on until 4am and they had a fire in their garden. So cue 9am the next morning, myself and my uncle both decided to do some DIY of our own, and loud music. I know it's very petty but it made us feel better!

The couple who lived there before him were lovely. I never heard a peep from them.

If you're not overly noisy then don't bother changing anything. Just ignore them and stop stressing :)

NotTheBelleoftheBall · 19/02/2017 20:09

I suspect this is a reverse - if not, you've hardly covered yourself in glory.

AFierceBadRabbit · 19/02/2017 20:09

people tend not to complain about noise 'several times' for no apparent reason.
something is obviously amiss.

Like I said, we are professional people. Our 2 kids play in sports teams, have sleepovers once a month, family/friends over for bbq in the summer! Anyone who is self employed knows there's not a lot of spare time. I've had several neighbours over the past 30 years and never ever had a problem, even when we had 6 kids living at home!
This thread isn't really about the cause, it's to do with the coping of the moany neighbours, cheers

Situations change Monte. You don't lose your council house if you become richer although if you earn over a certain amount your rent goes up, I think its called "pay to stay".

Crispbutty · 19/02/2017 20:12

You do realise that if you were not making a lot of disturbance then they wouldn't need to complain.

I'm thinking the neighbours may have a justifiable reason for not liking you.
