Cheese on toast AIBU

My method: grill on. Bread under. Slice cheese while one side browns. When side is brown, remove and flip over. Add cheese to non-brown side. Back under grill until cheese is bubbling. Eat.

DH's method: bread in toaster. Remove when browned. BUTTER one side Shock add cheese to buttered side. Grill cheese side. Eat.

I think the toaster part and buttering is completely unnecessary. AIBU?

Grate cheese, place on untoasted bread under the grill with some lea and perrins if you have it and leave until the cheese is all bubbly. Grin

I do it your way, but add shittons of Worcester sauce too! My Canadian family buttered both sides of each piece of bread then put the sandwich together and fried it!

I'm not loving the idea of toaster cheese on toast.

I have mine the same as you, DP same as your DH, but, to use the toaster AND then heat up the grill just to cook the cheese is madness! What a waste of money.

My toaster will toast just one side of the bread, so I do that, then put the cheese on the untoasted side and grill it. If you toast both sides, the edges of the toast get burnt while the cheese is toasting - so if my toaster didn't have the one-side option, I would either toast one side under the grill like you do, or I'd settle for burnt edges.

You are not wrong about the butter - cheese on toast definitely doesn't need butter!

Agree with your DH = otherwise it isn't cheese on toast. If the bread stays soft on the non-toasted side it is horrible. And without butter - all dry!!!

I would do what your DH did without the butter, and prefer to grate the cheese.

Loads of cheese on untoasted bread. Put under grill til cheese bubbles and eat. No toasting bread before hand.
