To any smokers out there, have you noticed any difference in the cigarettes in the new packaging to the old packets?

Not really, I just hate the waiting while they search for the cigs because they all look the same.

I'm not thing the new packets mean is longer queue times

I'm not a smoker, but I have seen the medical pictures on packs.

Horrible- but then it's nuts to smoke.

Just that the brand name is absent and that 20 cigarettes (at least in the brand I smoke) is actually only 18 cigarettes now.

Also as another poster pointed out above the length of time it takes for the shop assistant to find the ones you've asked for is annoying when you're in a rush!

I hate the fact that smokers are being directly targeted with all the horrible medical pictures i understand the implications of smoking and they are trying to put people off however why isnt alcohol being targeted the same. Pictures on that and warnings also alcohol is always on some sort of deal and heavily advertised like it is being encouraged.

I have quit. I can't bear spending a tenner a go (a fiver was much less of an issue for some weird reason), there aren't any packs of 10's available here (SE England).

It has been a week. Wish me luck...

I bought a tubing machine and buy tobacco and make my own now. It's a fraction of the price of ready made cigs and tastes the same.

I think I read somewhere that they are no longer available.

I can still get 10 from smaller independent stores. They have a strip saying they won't be available for much longer

They are £4.25 for 10 though

My tobacco says "smoking damages your lungs".

No shit.

Would it not have made sense to allow only packs of 200, and to forbid crushproof boxes so that you would get them loose in a bag?

it would also have rebuilt the market for cigarette-cases!

slave- the difference is that is possible to drink in moderation. Alcoholics do exist, but most people use alcohol in moderation. Smokers usually smoke every day.

I quit because of the same reason.

I'm far more interested to see what happens when they regulate vaping. None squeeze bottles and 5 quid for 10ml or something the last time I looked it up. Not that I vape either.

My small local Tesco still has some of the old packs so no change there. Cannot say a change in packaging or photos will make a blind bit of difference hey are already kept behind a screen anyway.

The only reason I wouldn't like my son to smoke is that he'd probably want to borrow cigs and likely to nick them Grin

They aren't cheap!

Chances of my son smoking are slim as he hates it so tend not to do it around him.

But anything can kill you.

The pictures are much more graphic - but let's be honest I think most of us smokers know full well the damage smoking causes, so as unpleasant as it is to look at its not going to stop people smoking.

The price however is a different matter. I smoke tobacco and usually buy the 12.5g packets for just under a fiver. Now they only come in 30 and 50g packets, so even though over the course of a week I'm spending no more, physically handing over £20 for one packet (as opposed to fivers here and there) is making me determined to quit (tried twice since new year Sad).

I am a stop smoking advisor as part of my role at work, and I find this video very powerful:

It's not really for your health that the packaging is plain, but for the health of your children.

Oh god now I will stop. Thanks for that insight. Us smokers needed that.

The friendliest people ever are in fact smokers.
