To think £26 is too much too take my son to the cinema!!! Odeon discount needed!

Feeling like swearing loudly, so posting here instead.

Have promised to take DS2 to see Lego Batman today (as his big brother went with a friend earlier in the week), but our local Odeon is charging £14.50 for me and £10.25 for him. It's too much!!! I don't even want to see the bloody film!!! There's a Cineworld within driving distance but it's only slightly cheaper and 10 times less pleasant (we can walk to the Odeon, along the river, which is the only bit of the trip I'm looking forward to).

I was banking on using my Tesco vouchers for a discount, but have logged in to find that my credit is zero - not because it really is zero, but because their dumb voucher system means all the "change" from previous vouchers (including the ones I used for DS1 and his friend) won't be re-credited until our next statement.

Does anyone know of any Odeon offers out there to help me out of this??? I've googled, but so far only finding out-of-date offers and adverts.

Where are you in the UK? That seems way excessive. I've never seen odeon to be that price. In fact, odeon is the cheaper one around here at £6.25 ish per adult.

Have you got a vue cinema anywhere near? They've recently changed prices to 4.99 for each ticket. Or have you got any small independent ones as they usually charge £3 to £5 a ticket

We were going to go as a family...But it was nearly £50. DH took the 3 kids on the family pass for £35...Stopping at the pound shop for drinks and snacks first ;)

Cinema is very expensive we try to limit it to the £2 kids shows on a Saturday now.

I know it won't help today, but if you have ever worked in a public sector job you might be eligible to join the Civil Service Social Club, which gives you discounted cinema tickets.

Have you not got the paper club card vouchers? Apologies if you can't use these, I never have.

Blimey I took two Dds and they had a bucket of sweets, a bag of sweets, a Tango blast, a small popcorn and a latte for me. All that for the same price! You need to move house sorry!

Yes - where are you? Our local Odeon is charging £11.25 for adults and £8.25 for under 12s. I don't see why it should be more expensive depending on where you are? Could you query this with the cinema? Were you looking at 2D or 3D? Xx

Yup. I wanted to take my kids too but for our family of 6 it's over £50.

I can't justify that for an hour and half of television essentially.

Thanks all - yes we're in Greater London (Richmond) - there are a couple of independent cinemas, but they all show things a bit more sophisticated than Lego Batman. Not sure I could persuade DS2 to swap for the latest subtitled arty movie.

How old is DS? Can you do him a deal? go on a different day which is less expensive, or when your Tesco tickets come good, and give him some of the savings?

We have a small independent cinema locally. £2.50 a ticket in the week and £3.50 at weekends. Makes a family outing fun instead of something requiring a small mortgage. Same films of course. Big name cinemas are such a rip off.

Similar prices here. Rip off indeed. I try to take dc to the kids club showings at weekends or half term. And then save the full price tickets for films they really want to see. But am taking dd later to see Sing. Won't be worth the full price though

I've used Groupon for odeon tickets in the past, 5 for £25 but that deal isn't there right now.
Do any of you have o2 priority? I think that has Odeon discounts.

One advantage of living in the provinces is that our local independent cinema charges £6.50 for adults, and the independent one in town charges £6.00.

Vue in Meadowhall charges just short of £12 and Cineworld £10.80.

Move to Barnsley.
