To ask if at 5'4 and nine and half stone I would be considered slim

Mil commented today that I'm in her words quite a high weight for my height. She is around the same height and over a stone lighter. I think I'm a good weight and that 5'4 is slim and not overweight at all. Am I in denial?

finova Sat 18-Feb-17 18:48:28

Not sure I'm usually about 10 stone 4 at 5ft 10....depends on your build I guess. I'd guess that you'd be a size 12?

Winniethepooer Sat 18-Feb-17 18:48:46

Almost identical to me. Im a size 8/10.
Most would consider thst slim

Haggisfish Sat 18-Feb-17 18:48:56

Only just imo. I'm the same and that weight is the upper limit for my 'slim'.

sonyaya Sat 18-Feb-17 18:49:02

I'm your height, half a stone heavier and a size 8 top ten bottom. I'd love to shave a few pounds but I'm not a "high weight" and you even less so!

It was a bitchy and untrue thing for her to say.

DorotheaHomeAlone Sat 18-Feb-17 18:50:00

I'm your height and I look a bit flabby at that weight. Better for me to be best 8 stone but in no way is that overweight. You're still slim. Wtf is your mil making comments like that? Beyond rude.

Worried61 Sat 18-Feb-17 18:50:39

I know it depends on build but I'm quite board and have big boobs. Mil is a small build.

DorotheaHomeAlone Sat 18-Feb-17 18:50:47

Sorry that should say better for me to be under 9 stone. I'd be too skinny at 8.

HeyYouYesYou Sat 18-Feb-17 18:51:06

I wouldn't have thought you were 'slim' as such.

That said, that has nothing to do with being 'a good weight' or being within the healthy weight range for your height, and I can't tell really just from seeing numbers on a page, and 'slim' is fairly subjective anyway.

So I wouldn't sweat it smile

ErrolTheDragon Sat 18-Feb-17 18:51:25

Sounds pretty slim to me. Of course, your 'slimness' does depend what your weight consists of (more muscle or fat) and how it's distributed.

Elllicam Sat 18-Feb-17 18:51:49

I'm 5'4 and 9 stone is my goal weight but I would be happy at 9.5 too. Your MIL is a bit of a bitch I'm afraid.

treaclesoda Sat 18-Feb-17 18:51:53

I'd say you sound fine. But this is mumsnet and therefore you will have responses telling you that you are tiny and many many responses saying that you are borderline obese, that a modern size ten was a size 16 twenty years ago and that our normal healthy state of affairs is to be ravenously hungry all day.

FenellaMaxwellsPony Sat 18-Feb-17 18:52:08

I'm a size 8/10 at that weight and height - 36-24-36 so I think it's fine!

SEsofty Sat 18-Feb-17 18:52:26

Normal. Rather than slim

Wishiwasmoiradingle2017 Sat 18-Feb-17 18:52:41

Tell her she would be heavier - with a fat lip. . .

crabwoman Sat 18-Feb-17 18:53:22

I'm 5"5 and I consider that weight to be my absolute limit. But it depends on build. I've got a tiny frame, so I don't look or feel great over 9 and a half.

Worried61 Sat 18-Feb-17 18:54:07

She's very judgemental about food and weight but this is the first time she has said something directly to me

AreWeThereYet000 Sat 18-Feb-17 18:54:12

I'm 5'4 and usually (when I'm not pregnant) I'm 9st 1 and that puts me at an 8/10 I'd say that was slim - obviously some people can be larger and toned or slim but flabby but I'd say you perfect height to weight x

MuseumOfCurry Sat 18-Feb-17 18:54:21

I'd say average rather than slim. Your MIL is a fool for walking into such provocative territory.

Artandco Sat 18-Feb-17 18:55:12

I'm same height and just under 8 stone. I would be quiet large for me If 1 1/2 stone heavier ( afraid that was weight at 9 months pregnant)
But you can be heavier to a degrees and super toned also still

NotSayingImBatman Sat 18-Feb-17 18:55:29

Mumsnet is seriously fucked up about weight. OP you're a clear stone within the healthy BMI range for your height. Ignore your MIL, she's a twat.

Thumbcat Sat 18-Feb-17 18:55:51

I'm 5'3" and 9.5 stone. Size 10. I'd consider it to be a normal healthy size.

orzal Sat 18-Feb-17 18:56:03

Age 27 I was 5ft 4in and weighed 8.5 stone, size 12.

ArgyMargy Sat 18-Feb-17 18:56:06

I'm an inch shorter than you and a stone and a half lighter. I've never considered myself slim, just normal weight. However I am thin bordering on skeletal compared with what people consider to be normal nowadays.

Mulberry72 Sat 18-Feb-17 18:57:37

Batman is absolutely right.

Ignore your MIL.
