My mother's been ill on and off for months now. She has a constant hacking cough and this week it's got worse again and she's refusing to leave the house. I've popped over a couple of times with groceries (she claims she can't work online shopping - despite the fact she can do everything else online she wants to, and despite the fact it takes me two hours to get there and back) and I actually think she now has a nasty chest infection but she won't see the GP. And she now wants me to take her over some cigarettes this morning - WIBU to say no? She has other groceries but she's down to 1 packet apparently which won't last long - she usually smokes about 60 a day.
She says I'm being selfish and self-righteous saying I don't want to get them for her. FWIW I'm happy to go over and see her (though not for long as DH is working so I'll have to take DS and I'd rather he didn't catch what she's got/ sit for too long in her smokey living room while she won't open windows while she's ill) but I feel really uncomfortable taking her cigarettes.
I do feel like I'm being a massive twat but I'm sure her smoking is part of the reason she isn't getting better. And if she's that bloody desperate she can either get herself round the corner to Tesco or get an ooh GP appointment to try to feel better. I keep thinking if she was an alcoholic I wouldn't buy her alcohol. But then I think she's an adult and it's her decision to smoke. Blargh.
