Why? Why do people say they'll have a "slither" of cake/pie? It's "sliver". It annoys me unreasonably smile

dickiedavisthunderthighs Mon 13-Feb-17 22:50:15

I'm with you. Slither is what a snake does.

Ohyesiam Mon 13-Feb-17 22:52:36

They are secret slytherins, and not to be trusted. All cake and pies should be taken in slabs.

Full agreement

Oysterbabe Mon 13-Feb-17 22:53:54

I avoid this problem by asking for a massive wedge.

CaraAspen Mon 13-Feb-17 22:54:58

And why do people say chest of draws and I text and reign in and drawERing?

anxious2017 Mon 13-Feb-17 22:55:15

This is very true. I can honestly say I've never asked for a sliver of anything grin

scrappydappydoo Mon 13-Feb-17 22:56:14

Yanbu - Mine is 'pacific' instead of 'specific' - once is a slip of the tongue but when you do it all the time (narrows eyes at colleague on next desk) angryangry

anxious2017 Mon 13-Feb-17 22:56:22

Feb-you-ary.

I saw a chest of drawers advertised as Chester Draws on my local buy and sell group recently!

MollyHuaCha Mon 13-Feb-17 22:57:51

In my local newsagent there is an advert in the window for a Chester Draws...

anxious2017 Mon 13-Feb-17 22:58:00

Ooh yes, Pacific.

Also people locally say "weary" when they mean "wary" and "wan" for "won" which isn't even a word!

Butttons Mon 13-Feb-17 22:58:09

I was about to say the same anxious!! Maybe we are in the same area

anxious2017 Mon 13-Feb-17 22:58:44

Wales?

MollyHuaCha Mon 13-Feb-17 22:58:48

Ha ha anxious, we posted at the same time...

SalemSaberhagen Mon 13-Feb-17 22:59:44

How else do you pronounce February?! <panics>

lostincumbria Mon 13-Feb-17 23:00:32

I know it's probably autocorrect but I keep seeing defiantly instead of definitely. Drives me potty.

CaraAspen Mon 13-Feb-17 23:03:27

I should of...

ducks

anxious2017 Mon 13-Feb-17 23:03:50

Ooh and people who have found a dog "wondering". Can't resist commenting "I wonder what he's wondering" but no one ever gets it grin

Butttons Mon 13-Feb-17 23:04:10

London I'm afraid anxious......

That Chester guy gets around a bit doesn't he

CaraAspen Mon 13-Feb-17 23:04:17

Nucular instead of nuclear.

anxious2017 Mon 13-Feb-17 23:05:02

I think February may be more of an accent thing and is just me being a twat tbh. I say Feb-you-ary but as I'm sat here repeating it to myself it's actually quite a hard word to say!

anxious2017 Mon 13-Feb-17 23:05:56

I meant I say Feb-roo-ary!

peaceloveandbiscuits Mon 13-Feb-17 23:07:26

Anyone who asks for anything less than a wodge of cake is UR <gavel>

SalemSaberhagen Mon 13-Feb-17 23:07:27

I say Feb-you-ary too, that's the way you said in the first post about it. Phew! I won't have to start referring to it as 'the second month'

Butttons Mon 13-Feb-17 23:13:00

It took me years to not say sec-yoo-tary and i still struggle to say Felicity instead of Facility blush
