Our baby is due soon and we want to have it christened, thing is, can we have two sets of godparents for our child?
Is that even allowed?
We live overseas - one gf & gm live in the same country's us, the other pair back in the UK.
Both very important to our lives home and away.
Please note, this is just a personal choice, those we want to ask are not the type to be offended if we don't ask them.

Tradition is two godparents of same sex as baby, 1 of different sex. And they don't have to be related to each other. But there is no issue with doing whatever you like as long as you have it clearly in your will, and understood by all, who looks after baby/child if something happens to you and the other parent.

Me and my siblings all had four. Quite normal where we are.

We have two men and two women for DS. It's not that unusual.

DD has four. No one batted an eyelid at the christening.

DD has one of each. DS is having 2 godfathers.
Priest said we only need one godparent but that it's our choice.

My DS has 2 godmothers and 3 godfathers my modern view of godparents are people you want to influence and guide your child. Doesn't matter to me how many someone has. We picked one couple and 3 people who all have different qualities.

DS1 has 3. I wish I'd gone for 4 for DD. Thought it looked a bit over the top so didn't but 3 yrs on and now feel sad that I didn't ask the other 2 people too. Not having any more children so feel that I've wasted an opportunity to celebrate how special they are to us as a family and bind us together.

You may have as many as you wish for. The Royals usually have between six and eight and no one seems to this is outrageously abnormal.

Cheers all, appreciate you taking the time to reply.
Decision made - 2 Godmothers and 2 Godfathers it is. Lucky baby, they'll all cherish our wee one I'm sure!
Ok... now to decide whether to have it home or abroad :)
