I chew gum between meals. Makes me less likely to want to eat rubbish when bored as minty fresh but also the chewing tricks my mind in thinking of eaten something as it usually boredom not hunger.

Also drinking proper cold water before eating meals to help make you feel more full.

Not think that it's normal to eat a whole cake or a packet of biscuits.

Be realistic. If you try to cut out everything "bad" you end up feeling like your punishing yourself and eventually most people will end up binging.

Be patient. Slow and steady is much more likely to lead to sustainable weight loss

Whenever you get hungry have a drink or do 15 mins exercise then if you are still hungry have a small snack.
After saying that I have been awful since Christmas and can't seem to be good. Prior to that though I was and I calorie counted as well.

Don't ever shop when hungry

Plan your meals a week in advance

I find taking a packed lunch to work instead of buying from the sandwich man/shop is good as i then have a healthy filling lunch instead of a sandwich/cake that doesn't feel me up

I find having mints to suck on and drinking sparkling water between meals stop me keep snacking

Don't tell yourself you can't have x as you will crave it more. A small piece of cake or one choclate bar honestly won't ruin your diet.

Don't buy crap. If it's not in the house you won't eat it. You aren't doing your children any favours later in life if your fridge and larder are full of sugar, salt and fats.

Even a small insignificant breakfast can stack weight on if it's a fattening breakfast.

I put on a stone one year just cos I started working in a place at the end of a long commute and had a croissant ok two croissants at my desk every morning to save time.

Drink enough. Often people eat when they actually need a drink.
Eat food that is as near to its natural state as possible and chew every mouthful 25 times.
In fact eat things that need to be chewed.
An apple a day.
Weigh helpings.
Do not buy biscuits, crisps, nuts or any other "snack" food. If it isn't in the cupboard you cannot eat it. However, do have the ingredients because if you really want a biscuit or slice of cake, making it or the thought of having to make it, could assess how much you want it!
Stick to the "real deal". No low fat spreads, use butter etc.
Want a fruit yoghurt? Get some fun fat plain and add your own fruit.
If you think you are hungry, have a drink and then clean your teeth.

No fad diets. No juice cleanses or meal replacement shakes.

Do heavy weights. And walk.

Oh and bagels are shockingly bad for weight loss. Learnt that one in WW.

Portion sizes. Ensure your portions of veg far outweigh portions of carbs and meat.

Try not to eat much after about 7pm.

Don't keep bad stuff in the house! Crisps, sweets, chocolate, cake. Just don't buy them. If you haven't got them there to snack on then you can't eat them.

If you feel hungry vetween meals go for something boring - cheese sandwich or a banana. If you dont want that then youre not really hungry.

Make sure you drink plenty of water/squash

Snack on fruit/veg/cold meats

Meal plan

Don't cut anything out or you crave it more. This is why slimming world works for me - everything in moderation

If your hungry chop apple up and eat it out of a bowl, it takes a while so your kept very busy for 10 minutes.

Do not eat two slices of buttered toast at 8pm cos you're peckish and want something with your cup of tea!

Don't call it being good.

Don't call food crap or rubbish.

Don't eat because it's breakfast time/lunch time/dinner time. Eating because it's time to eat is unnecessary. You know how when you are trying to sleep just because you need to be up in the morning and not because you are tired? It's hard to drop off. You can't relax. You feel pressured. You end up getting less sleep overall. That's like trying to make your body digest something you ate just because it was 1pm and you were on your lunch break - rather than because you were actually hungry.

Log every single thing you eat (and non water drinks). It'll shock you how many calories you actually consume.

Meal plan and leave 200-300 calories a day spare for chocolate / crisps / alcohol. If you don't NEED them, don't then eat them because you can!

Don't fall into the "exercise calories" trap. I have a friend that goes for a walk or whatever, sees that MFP reckons she's burned 600kcal (you won't have.... it massively overestimates) then eats a whole pizza and a big bag of chocolates as she has earned the calories.

For most people simply eating less is the answer - granted some people that doesn't work for, but for most it really is that simple.

Use smaller plates. When dishing up portion up any leftovers into a tub for the freezer straight away so there are no leftovers for seconds/picking at.

Watching. Find it so hard not to snack or not to buy crisps or biscuits as kids are 3 and 6, so they have these occasionally.

Think of it as a lifestyle change and not a diet.

Buy individual portions of things for a while so you learn portion control.

Go to bed early Smile

Tell everyone you are trying to eat more healthily so that they can support and encourage you.

Keep busy to negate bored eating.

Have porridge for breakfast.

Try not to drink too many calories.

Reward yourself in non food ways.

Remember the first week is the hardest. Focus on one day at a time. When you've got to one week, focus on making it two weeks. Then one month, then two months and from there it becomes more of a way of life.

Use my fitness pal to track what you eat and be honest. Fill half of your plate with veggies. Drink lots of water. Cut down on refined carbohydrates and increase protein.

If you aren't losing it's likely that you are consuming too many calories. It's highly UNlikely that you've entered "starvation mode". People bandy that phrase about way too much these days.
