Surely there should be a sofa that will fit through a narrow doorway

I am at the end of my tether searching for a sodding sofa that will come apart and fit through a 26 inch wide doorway.

I have a Nabru sofa but it is not massively comfortable and we need another really.

I just need something that the arms/back come off.

I have phoned a few big retailers and they all say 'pick a sofa and we will tell you if the arms come off.' They can't give me a list of sofas that will fit.

I am sick of trawling through sofa websites so am hoping for some help from somebody somewhere before I scream!

I know this is a first world problem. But with only 1 sofa visitors have to sit on dining chairs while I bore them half to death with moaning about not being able to find another sofa...

Because a sofa isn't a rectangle maybe the length of it is the thing, put it through the door on its end by swivelling it as it goes through?

I was going to suggest Nabru....but they obviously aren't for you! Could you try one of the ones that turn into a click clack style sofa bed? The original ones were a bit grim, but I've seen them in nicer fabrics and colours.

We had this problem, we got a Multiyork sofa (most of theirs come apart), but they can be pricey. Before that we had an IKEA Beddinge.

Lots of people get their sofas into their houses by taking out a windowpane. Is that possible.

26" is very narrow!

We have two 29" doors at right angles to each other, so chose something we could swing around. The height of the arms was the limiting factor, there!

I more than feel your pain. I have returned 2 beautiful sofas that should have fitted but didn't and pretty much ruined a very nice one I bought second hand. My situation is made all the more crystal maze/krypton factor (showing my age) by the world's most tricky configuration of narrow hall and sharp bend into the living room. My last sofa, a small ish corner suite had dh and fixed for several days! Days! Had to leave it in the garden for a bit. Try as we mite we couldn't get the last piece in??Took the door off in the end and that helped no end. My neighbours took their window out and had it put back in after the sofa was angled through. Next time I want a new sofa I am selling up and moving. Have you considered that? Either that or I am building my own!
I seriously don't know why people build such narrow bloody doorways and halls.

My mil had narrow doorways and wasn't sure if the sofa she had picked would fit. So she cancelled her order in the shop and reordered it online. Apparently due to the distance selling act if they deliver and can't get it in they have to take it away but if they deliver after you order it in store and it doesn't fit they can legally leave it on your front garden! Not sure if this is 100% accurate but worth thinking about

IKEA! Almost all of their furniture comes flat packed and you build it yourself. You can go online, choose a sofa and see the size of the boxes it comes in.

I work in furniture and the depth of a sofa is not always the crucial measurement! Rarely are sofas delivered to a room the correct way up, instead they are manoeuvred in and twisted as necessary. If it is a sofa less than 2 metres long it can be put on end and then the narrowest measurement is often the height (legs come off sofas usually) and can go in easily with a slight twist.

I strongly advise that you stop looking online and go and find a good independent furniture store who can advise you. I work for such a company (Glasgow area on the off chance you are) and we would send our delivery guys to check your access if there was any question but I realise this is not the norm. Not only can they measure and 9 out of 10 times just 'know' it will go (or not!), it also puts the onus on us, taking the stress away a bit. Many of the 'big' furniture sellers will just dump it in your garden f it won't go in so you're right to give it a lot of thought but try finding an expert.

Incidentally, I just measured my own sofa as I too have narrow doors (27") - it's 40" deep but only 24" high without legs on. This measurement is not always given as the overall height includes both the legs and the back cushions that stick up another 4" but these are not on the sofa when it's brought into the room as they are loose and would fall off plus add to the delivery guy's lifting weight.

I have silly narrow doors and hallway and managed to get 2 dfs sofas from the helix 2 seater to fit through with no bother at all. I was seriously impressed

IKEA sofas come in bits and packed into nice straightforward boxes and you build them on site.

Next do 5 different styles of modular sofas. They come in pieces and then can be fitted together in awkward gaps, through small doors.
