Mall Lobby to guarantee rights of residence of EU citizens.
It's on the 20th of February.

I am in Scotland and have no way of making it there (even though I have registered and I have mailed by MP, but have not heard back).

Any proxy attendees who fancy having out in Parliament for a while?
There might be canapés and fizz, who knows?! doubt it
thanks

PacificDogwod Thu 09-Feb-17 21:52:48

It's not a Mall Lobby (what is that even?!), it's a Mass Lobby

Thanks, AC hmm

hanging out in Parliament

See, I need somebody a wee bit more fucking competent to go there for me.

blush

PacificDogwod Thu 09-Feb-17 22:02:08

Oh, come one!

<talks to self>

I'm happy to offer bribes - shortbread, anyone?
smile

Scribblegirl Thu 09-Feb-17 22:04:25

Hey OP - I'd love to but I'm working (can I still get some shortbread?!)

I'll bump this though in case that helps smile

I can't do during the week but as dh is an EU citizen (Irish) I'm starting to get a bit concerned. Both dd's are also Irish. Thank fuck my citizenship has recently come through. I may have to sponsor lot of the.

Or head home.

See how it's going to pan out before I decide.

FourToTheFloor Thu 09-Feb-17 22:07:16

*the lot of them. Stupid wine brain hmm

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g Thu 09-Feb-17 22:09:01

I could do it. Am I going to pretend to be you? I am Scottish, if that helps!

PacificDogwod Thu 09-Feb-17 22:15:53

Well, I am not Scottish which is why I feel the need to lobby grin

Thank you, all!
Shortbread for everyone - huzzah!

I just want to spread the word about this event.

The more MNers/people attend or mail their MP, the more presence there is on the day, the more likely it is that there will be some clarification about what the status of EU citizens currently residing in the UK is likely to be.

The website says it ends at 6 - any idea if it's ok to turn up late?

I can't get out of work till 4..

PacificDogwod Thu 09-Feb-17 22:19:44

I move to the UK in 1993 when various agency advertised very hard in my home country (Germany) to attract junior doctors to the UK as the was a scarcity of British-trained doctors. As it happened, there was an over supply of German junior doctors, I wanted to improve my English and I wanted to work abroad longer term, so it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Fast forward 24 years working for the NHS, 1 British husband, 4 DCs, a mortgage later, it now appears that I may have to spend time/money/nervous energy to apply for Permanent Leave to Remain.

At this stage in the evening wine, I think I am just going to bugger off back to where I came from if it comes to that grin

Trills Thu 09-Feb-17 22:19:51

I am London-based but I'm supposed to be at work during those hours.

Is there a central resource for
a - contact details of MPs
b - what is the "right" thing to send to them regarding this issue?

If you started a thread with those you'd be able to ask all UK-based MNers to help, and they'd only need to have internet access and a spare 5 mins (which we all clearly do have!) rather than being London-based and able to go to a specific place on a Monday afternoon.

PacificDogwod Thu 09-Feb-17 22:20:56

Oh, I have no experience of these kinds of events at all, sorry.

There must be so many EU MNers or people married to EU citizens who may be interested to sign up.

thanks

Trills Thu 09-Feb-17 22:21:47

My MP is definitely on the side of protecting the rights of EU citizens in the UK. I could mail and say "well done, keep at it"?

PacificDogwod Thu 09-Feb-17 22:23:08

Yes, Trills, v good point.
There is a very easy link allowing you to mail your MP, but only after you have registered.
There is a pre-loaded letter that one is encouraged to change according to what one wants to say.

I cannot link to it directly, I don't think.

Let me have another gander...

PacificDogwod Thu 09-Feb-17 22:25:49

Won't make it to London, but have booked the day off anyway. Was asked why when "You've got citizenship now and your safe"?

As if I'd ever stop being a migrant.

PacificDogwod Thu 09-Feb-17 22:42:20

Oh, yes, thanks for that link, Widow, I am planning on doing something at work on the 20th.

I have never applied for citizenship for no other than purely 'emotional' reasons.

PacificDogwod Fri 10-Feb-17 10:01:41

Oh dear, did I accidentally bump into my fred?!

grin
