...When children are supposed to be in school?

Am I missing something? Are the programmes intended to be watched AT school or they just for children who happen to at home ill/in hospital?

As the forever poorly child I would have killed for all-day kid's TV instead of being stuck with Take The High Road and Oprah.

School in the Netherlands is over by 1pm UK time, and we get CBBC here too.

Kondo, you were lucky! In my day it was just the test card - with a bit of jazzy music if you were lucky - until Play School came on at 11 o'clock.

As well as poorly children there are plenty of home educated children out there.

Leigh, I mean CBBC though, not CBeebies.

I had it on at lunchtime and they were showing Shaun the Sheep and Strangehill High, so not what you'd normally think of as school programmes.

I remember CBBC showing schools tv programs like Look And Read, etc at about lunchtime. But on the channel. On BBC 2 it was CBBC in the morning then Working Lunch with the goldfish intro that my grandpa liked to watch but I found very boring!

But why did you have it on at lunch time? I mean if you think it shouldn't be on because the target audience should be at school?

I was still watching cbbc when in 6th form and on "study leave" 😆

When I was off sick I got cartoons in the morning (would have watched them anyway before school) - soon as the clock struck 9 it was all the boring stuff. Working Lunch was the worst! (though I did like the title credits).

Schools and Colleges and Crown Court for me when I was off school. I probably learnt more when I was off than when I was at school.

I guess because some kids will be off school for various reasons (illness, inset days etc).

I always wondered that about CBBC too, but I'm glad now, as when we come back to the UK it's not in school holiday time, but DS can watch it in the Premier Inn while I doze off. Grin

They should at least have Pebble Mill at One back.

''Tis what I enjoyed on a poorly day at Nans.

I always thought Crown Court was real, until I saw it again a few years ago.

Let's not forget the agony of The Sullivan's before Dougals exploits in Take the High Road....

Is it bad that I'm jealous that you all got to watch any TV at all? I was a poorly child but had to lay in bed all day and DM would allow me to read 1 book in the afternoon.

CBBC would have been amazing.

For those who asked, I'm messing around on MN working at home for the day today and switched the Telly on at lunchtime to see if there was any news. The kids had left it tuned to CBBC which I was surprised to see was actually broadcasting, with Shaun the Sheep showing. So yeah, I watched that with my soup and sandwiches instead. It was a nice diversion. I somehow doubt that was why the BBC were showing it though.

Working Lunch with the goldfish intro

I can still hum the Working Lunch theme tune!
It did seem odd to me that they would have a programme dedicated to stocks, shares and investment choices broadcast at a time of day when the predominant audience was students and the unemployed!

Ohsoggybiscuit I remember Working Lunch! What was that all about? Surely the only business programme to be broadcast to unemployed people!
