To potentially get our postman fired

DP is a camera geek. On the weekend he bought a camera trap for catching wildlife in the garden. He wanted to test it out so set it up by the front door so he could test it by the kids going in and out. It's been there since Sunday.

So this evening he had a look at the footage with DD(5). There's us, there's the cat, there's the postman. Oh look, there's the postman having a piss against our garden wall Shock.

Our door is round the side of the house, so out of sight from the road. There's the door, the path next to the house, a small patch of grass and the neighbours wall. He literally posted a letter, turned round, knob out, pissed all over the grass and wall. Knob away, off to post more letters, obviously without washing his hands. Envy

It was done so casually it's hard to believe he's not done it before. On the plus side, he posted our letters first so that won't be covered in piss Grin. But seriously, who would do that?!

Thing is, we're in a village where everyone knows each other, and he's been the postie for years. But IANBU to report him and potentially get him sacked am I?! I have a slight pricking of my conscience if he did lose his job, but surely that's his problem, not mine?!

Bit grim but would you have him do if he's walking up and down residential streets for hours?

He can't be doing it much or your garden would stink of piss!

Nothing constructive to say; but omg!!!

Just leave him a note, am sure he won't do it again if he thinks he's on film Grin

Nah. Just mention next time you see him that you've a wildlife camera that caught him peeing and you'd prefer he didn't as it can be smelly.

He probably thought nobody would see ever and needed to go. But it's pretty bad manners to do it where he did.

Maybe he was desperate and had no choice. And as far as I know, not being male myself, I'm sure he could do it without actually weeing on his hands. .. and you have no idea who else would have touched the outside of envelopes already.

You would be quite mean to report him I think.

Really?! How long are postmen out for? They can't all be taking a piss in people's garden can they?!

That is grim. Too lazy to detour to the public loos - they can't be that far away in a village!

MsJamieFraser · 08/02/2017 21:15

Why do you think you could get him sacked over this Hmm

hes walks the streets, he does not carry a portable loo.

Crispbutty · 08/02/2017 21:15

It might keep the foxes away too Grin

Haha. That made me laugh. What are the rules on filming people without them knowing? Usally with cctv there is a sign up telling people. If I were you I'd put a note on your letter box saying "keep it in your trousers"

We dont have any loos in our village and out nearest post office is 10 miles away and the nearest public toilet is in the local shopping centre 5 miles away.

I'd confront him personally, do it in aroper English way...
Be out there one morning looming at the grass, look him square in the eyes and then start moaning about the grass dying and you just don't know why...

Grin

That's revolting Shock I would tell him you found it, set up cctv or fake cctv and tell him if you ever catch it happening again you'll report him to the police.

Was it on your lawn? You sound quite rural, do you have any public toilets close by?

Report
Bearsinmotion · 08/02/2017 21:18

Am surprised at people thinking it's mean to report him. Surely if it's not that bad he wouldn't get into trouble...

It's on our grass where the kids hang out when we're getting ready to leave Angry

To be honest I would have a little chat with him about it but I wouldn't want him to loose his job over it.

I'm wondering how close you live to me, we're in a small village everyone knows each other, there's a young postman who does other roads not mine but most of this area I'm thinking is it him lol xx

ArriettyClock1 · 08/02/2017 21:19

Don't get him sacked!

Just tell him and ask him not to do it again.

Report
SlothMama · 08/02/2017 21:20

It would be harsh to report him, he may have been desperate is it really worth him potentially losing his job over it?

Report
60sname · 08/02/2017 21:20

Grin at the police being interested in someone having a wee in someone else's garden

Bearsinmotion · 08/02/2017 21:21

There's a public toilet in the next village, one mile away. He does deliveries in a van, it takes less than five minutes to get there.

You do realise that all manner of wildlife pissed on your grass every night? Ok he shouldn't have gone in the garden but do you really want a man to potentially lose his job because he needed a pee?

Report
YouMeddlingKids · 08/02/2017 21:21

I wouldn't report him. The nearest public toilet is about 20 minutes walk from my house, and posties rounds are getting bigger all the time with the pressure royal mails under. Presumably if he could have held it he would have done. No harm done, if you hadn't been secretly filming you never would have known.

forfucksakenet · 08/02/2017 21:22

I'm curious about the camera. Why not test it in the back garden with the wildlife or whatever he bought it for?

I think you might be a nosey neighbour who got more than she bargained for Grin
