And if so do you feel fat/ lean etc with it? Had mine measured and to be honest I think even though I'm not big I'm quite "high fat low muscle" and it said 22% which sounds a lot but apparently is in the normal range. Just wondering how it compares to others.

22% for a woman is quite low. Although I'm a healthy weight (BMI 23.5), my body fat is off the scale, something like 40%. And no, I definitely don't feel lean.

Would have no idea how I would find out. Where did you get it measured?

Dd is nearly 19 and her's is 17%. Last time I had mine checked it was 22% (was still breast feeding, it was a long time ago!). If it gets too low you stop menstruating.

DontTouchTheMoustache Mon 06-Feb-17 22:38:43

Currently I think mine is about 300%

28% which is within normal range but a bit on the high side. Women's should be higher than men's though and I always wondered what impact breasts had.

My gym has fancy scales which measure body and muscle composition.

About 6 months ago at 5' 7" I weighted almost 12 stone and decided to lose some weight. So I went about my go-to - do loads of cardio, eat basically soup for a week. Got on the fancy scales and I'd lost almost half a stone. Except 2/3rds of it were muscle, the rest fat and water.

Being measured this way has truly changed my approach to diet and exercise. I now only try and get my body fat % down while keeping lean muscle, so I don't worry too much that the overall numbers haven't changed so rapidly.

I started on 34% fat and down to 28.5% with overall just over a stone lost. I will never ever go down the loads of cardio / not much food route again.

It's what also makes me really wary of calorie restricted diets and juice diets people recommend. You will never drop fat, only muscle and water. Pointless.

My fitbit scales always say I am around 30% which is apparently high. Yet I'm well within my BMI, eat reasonably well and exercise regularly, and am not visibly fat.

Interestingly, it's after a heavy eating period eg Xmas /indulgent holidays when I put on a couple of pounds that the scales then say my body fat has gone down....

42.6% Just had it measured yesterday using the machine at the gym. I've lost around 14 kg since September, so god only knows what it was then! I need to be down to around 32% to be top of my healthy range.

MaidOfStars Mon 06-Feb-17 22:42:19

Mine is 18%.

Ideal range on the chart I'm looking starts at 16% (18 year old) to 25% (56 years +).

Average range starts at 23% (18) to 31% (56+).

HoneyDragon Mon 06-Feb-17 22:42:35

MaidOfStars Mon 06-Feb-17 22:43:33

MaidOfStars Mon 06-Feb-17 22:43:49

Calipers, FFS.

AlmostAJillSandwich Mon 06-Feb-17 22:44:06

I haven't ever measured it, but honestly i'm probably over 50%.
I'm almost 17 stone, and lower end of "normal" for my height is 8 stone, so, yeah.....

NarcsBegone Mon 06-Feb-17 22:44:11

I had mine measured and to be honest I was surprised at how much muscle it said. My water was very low.
Body fat 43%
Muscle mass 51%
Water 41.2%
It also happily said that the fat around my organs is under average.
I weigh 14st 9lbs and I feel and look 'fat' but I'm doing something about it smile

Lemoncurd Mon 06-Feb-17 22:44:20

My scales say 30% - I'm a bit overweight, BMI of 27 at the moment.

WeirdButTrue Mon 06-Feb-17 22:46:11

I'm 29% but I swear half of that is boob blush

MaidOfStars Mon 06-Feb-17 22:46:23

Body fat measurement through your feet on home scales is notoriously unreliable. However, if you measure at same time/same hydration/etc each week, the change should be reasonably OK to track.

MaidOfStars Mon 06-Feb-17 22:49:19

I had mine measured and to be honest I was surprised at how much muscle it said
But your figure is relatively low?
'Muscles' are the majority of your body.

QueenMortificado Mon 06-Feb-17 22:53:50

MaidOfStars I think that poster was surprised because she said she feels heavy and so thought her fat ratio would be even higher than it was.

FourKidsNotCrazyYet Mon 06-Feb-17 22:55:50

Tonight I am 70% Snickers bar blush

MaidOfStars Mon 06-Feb-17 22:56:47

Oh I see. Apologies Narc flowers

thedcbrokemybank Mon 06-Feb-17 22:57:29

I am about 26% which is normal. Iwould like to lose some more fat but I am never going tobe a "skinny" person. I am howevernaturally quite muscular.
