So DS & DD love these ice lollies as they have popping candy in, so when doing an online shop found they had some groovy popping candy.

DH has gone off at the deep end saying their teeth will fall out, how as a Mum could I think it was a good idea. Just to reiterate this was one bag of popping candy which is about 20g maybe.

I don't eat chocolate, so never tried these lollies they all have. I think I'm allowed to buy this as an odd treat, it's not going to kill them. It even comes with a lolly & glow in the dark snappy thing.

I am fed up of my parenting decisions being undermined. It goes as far as the elder DC will ask DH did you sleep well in a morning, I get ignored as I don't visibly do the exciting stuff like drive to school. DH has to go that way anyway so it doesn't make sense doing 2 car journies.

What are your thoughts about the very limited one off treat of sweets?

What in tarnation is a 'popping candy'?

YANBU though to give them the occasional treat.

I recommend feeding them fried mars bars for dinner one night. That may make your husband rethink his attitude towards the sweets.

I think having an unhealthy attitude to the odd treat can lead children in the exact opposite way when they are older. Mine get a small sweet treat/bit of chocolate every day if they have eaten their teas. It's no big deal.

Very - my dad had never tried it. His face then I told him if he drank some lemonade it would stop it popping. Yes I'm evil (it makes it pop even more)

Popping candy is wonderful stuff. It would be a bad idea for everyday obviously but fine as an occasional thing assuming everyone has good teeth brushing habits.

It does sound like there are larger issues though.

Oh for the love of the sweet Lord on a rollercoaster. Assuming they don't have 10 a day and brush their gnashers every morning and night. I very much doubt their teeth are going to fall out.

It's very very seldom they get sweets unless they've been to a party that has the Haribo bags in. I usually end up eating them as I know what DH is like about sweets.

Ironically when it came to celebrations over Christmas I got a bollocking for eating the bounty ones as I know they're DD's favourite. But she'll eat anything, I'm a fussy sod & just like mini bounties.

So it's amusing that this popping candy will be the scourge of the dentist, but chocolate is fine.

Ah days at the pub with a can of old style cola plus a bag of crisps. Those weird tree sweet and slide sets too. Ooh or panda pop with a straw.

I don't think DC have ever been to a proper pub, just trying to recall. The one we went to was more of a restaurant really. The children had proper food too. I need to get them making mud pies & crazy stuff we used to do as kids!

My friend's little boy wasn't allowed anything sugary. When I visited she'd made some iced cupcakes especially and went to get them. The poor little sod had very quietly licked them all clean.

DH would faint at ours - free access to sweets. Ds4 averages on about 3 little Harbo bags per week, doesn't like chocolate. loves carrots and apples (has to ask for these as not allowed to open fridge himself, and fruitbowl is too close to kettle for comfort - small kitchen).
no idea if i'm lucky or if available is just boring, but restricting sweets too much just makes them more desirable (free access probably only works for some children though, but i was raised like that).

My kids have always had unlimited access to the sweet cupboard. Not a problem in our house.
