To wonder what media outlets you trust?

With the Trump & Brexit stuff, although long before now, I was wondering where you turned to either/or newspaper/TC station? Or do you hold the stance none can be trusted?

We watch Sky and BBC and Channel 4 news in the hope that between them there is some truth.

I don't 'trust' any as such but lIke to keep up to date with different agencies from around the world- especially ones with different views to my own. I follow Sky, BBC, Channel 4, NYT, CNN, Fox, Russia today, France today and Al Jazeera on Twitter and read what catches my eye on there. We tend to flick between Sky, BBC and CNN when watching the news channels.

I trust Private Eye, even if they get it sometimes wrong.
I'll read most newspapers online, but don't really trust them.
I certainly don't trust nutty online news sites like Breitbart and the Canary, and I'm distrustful of anyone that does.

Channel 4 news.
Guardian less and less so, but still ok.
I learn a lot from news threads here- not so much because everyone is right, but there's a good level of debate and posters link to other sources. The Turkey thread last year when there was the coup was excellent.

I trust the BBC.

I trust the Guardian and Independent in that I don't believe they purposefully lie/twist facts like other media outlets however I realise they are left biased so I also try to look at the same news story in the Torygraph for the opposite viewpoint.

If I'm particularly interested in a story I will google and look at several sources. If I'm really interested or it's important I will try as much as possible to see what source material I can find.

I don't distrust media outlets per se (apart from Fox news and the DM, I make exceptions for them), but I am wondering where the balance is at the moment with reporting Trump's antics.

I'm no fan of his at all and am horrified at what's happening with him sacking anyone who dares disagree with him, and his blatant xenophobic actions (to name but two things), but there are a HUGE number of people in the US who support him, yet there seems to be little reporting of this across the UK media.

I was watching the Brexit debate coverage on BBC24 I thought in all honesty it's so serious they should have made it a special segment and covered the whole thing, instead of seeing a monkey 6 times an hour.

I'm with you on the Guardian, I also look at the AP on Twitter, BBC Breaking, a few others.

I was wondering considering we're getting so get up over Trump, if the petition got everyone in the UK to sign it TM has put HMQ in a difficult position. Like I read somewhere, what has he done that's so spectacular not warrant the 3 year wait other Presidents had.

TM's handling of Trump is akin to that of a giggly schoolgirl. I can't denounce him on that, he's our only friend left since Brexit.

I noticed on DM, I go on there if I'm bored for celeb gossip, there wasn't much of an outcry about our outcry and what Trump is doing.

Following the thread on it with interest.

I don't fully trust any news sites because everyone has an agenda. I'm a media student and I often rip apart the news.

I do however read BBC News because I like the way it's written and it's mostly trustworthy. I also read the Guardian because they cover things I'm interested in that don't often hit most other newspapers. I sometimes read CNN if I want to see the US perspective as that's my preferred channel. Occasionally if it's a big thing I will watch/read Sky News and a couple of the big US papers as well.

I don't go near fox news, the mirror, the sun, the daily mail or the daily express because they aren't publications I wish to give clicks/revenue to for various reasons.

Other news outlets I have nothing specific against I just tend not to read.

It's funny. People always use, or used to, media studies as an example of a 'Mickey Mouse degree'. If analysing the media were compulsory in our schools though, perhaps we wouldn't be in the Brexit mess we are now.

I don't trust sky either but find it more watchable in small doses.

My local news is ok, not 100% trustworthy but I have lost cal knowledge so I find it is my most watched news media.

I stopped reading any newspapers or magazines other than specialist publications many years ago.

I find it really odd that so many of you trust the Guardian. Whenever I've read an article in the Guardian on any subject I know about it's always horribly inaccurate In a way that suggests they really don't care or check anything.

I still read the Guardian online, but its columnists aren't what they were.
Polly Toynbee has been recycling the same article for the past two decades. Giles Fraser is the verger from Dad's Army that got lucky. Owen Jones is so inconsistent it could be two completely different people writing his column. Simon Jenkins just writes rubbish.
Too many youngish numpties dashing out Hot Takes on whatever they've read on Twitter.

We had the opportunity to study critical thinking a level in sixth form. Pretty much everyone dropped it after a term because no-one enjoyed it. Like with all important skills it needs to be done carefully in school.

Don't trust BBC or Sky. Get most of my news via Twitter tbh, gets all the main stuff and there's usually some smart peeps tweeting stories that don't get covered properly by MSM.
