AIBU?

To think 8-5 "delivery slots" take the piss?

DH has ordered something today to be delivered. When receiving confirmation it says on the email that delivery will be be "between 8am and 5pm". This really pisses me off. People have stuff to do. The school run, work etc. Some companies actually give you an hour slot which I think is great but even am or pm would be more acceptable.
The week before xmas I had an item I was waiting for between 8am and 8pm" REALLY?! Other than the school run I sat at home with my one year all day bored to tears and the item never even arrived!
Does anyone actually think it is okay to expect people to wait around all day? Surely they can give a smaller window than 9 hours?

YANBU. This grinds my gears! Having a sofa delivered on Thursday and they can't give me anything other than 8am-6pm. It's not like Amazon where there'll be eleventy billion deliveries to make! I just want morning, afternoon or evening FFS Angry

At least Amazon will try to deliver 3 days in a row if you are not home. I always chance it on day 1 and 2 if I need to pop out.

Mama surely on the morning they should be able to give you an idea of what time of day?

Not only it's ridiculous, but they don't always turn up on the day that was booked. Why can't they send a text or email in the morning to give a smaller window, I have no idea. Most people have to go out at some point, so they are wasting their time coming to empty houses. Stupid system.

Kiroro, its frustrating because you can't even complain. I think the company bosses are sat there enjoying the power of pissing people off. Angry

I agree, it's incredibly irritating. Even when you pay extra for specific day you get a 12 hour slot. Which sometimes isn't upheld anyway.

There are collection lockups even in my small not London town. Or get it delivered to work.

Or don't buy it as not practical!

But special not many companies are this much of a pain! And you don't find out until after you have paid!

Loads of companies can do better. AO will let you get free delivery if you're happy to be in all day or upgrade to a 4 hour time slot (one of which is 10-2 so skips the school run) for twenty quid. They also ring on the day to give a more detailed idea of time I think. British Gas will give you a "morning slot" but then gives you a half hour warning when they're on their way so you can go out and run errands as long as you don't stray too far. Only the companies who really can't be arsed to think about what their customers need lumber you with this "sometime within the next 24 hours, can't be more specific, " approach.

And it always comes at 4.59.
