AIBU?

To find weekends really overwhelming?

I'm quite introverted and need a LOT of quiet time to feel balanced. I'm very fortunate to be a SAHM to school aged dc so I get plenty of time during the week.

I'm always ragged by Sunday evening. Ds2 is like a little barnacle, he's constantly velcroed to me. Dh is lovely but can be a bit puppy like and wants constant affection and physical contact. The teenagers are generally doing their own thing so not really a problem.

We went out last night as well (rare) so I've had to be sociable out in public. I feel grumpy and a bit teary this evening. I went upstairs to watch TV in bed while the roast was cooking earlier and every bloody bugger followed me up there!

I'm a right miserable grinch. I just want to be left alone!

Does anyone else get like this?

YANBU! I'm an introvert and I feel your pain OP. I also find it tiring when socialising. Some folk just don't understand you want to be alone.

Yanbu. I also need alone time or frankly I go a bit mad and end up feeling ratty and harrassed. Luckily I do get alone time during week days as I work alone freelancing. I understand where you are coming from. Can you lock yourself in the bathroom with a book (in pretence of being on the toilet) or will they be banging on the door?

I've only got tomorrow morning as I have to go to therapy in the afternoon. More bloody talking to a room full of people .

I know I'm very lucky generally though.

I had a bath yesterday and the whole lot of them came in on one pretext or another. Including the dog!

I hear you op, I'm exactly the same. Unfortunately I work Mon-Fri and by the time DS is in bed I feel absolutely drained. I'm often in bed by 9pm just to get some alone/processing time to myself. Weekends are hard too but I do get every other weekend to myself when DS goes to his dads. I crave alone time, quiet time, when I don't have to talk to anyone!

I had no idea how much I need alone time - only realised when I had my children 🤦🏽‍♀️.

I need a bit if time to myself too. On the odd occasion everybody is it and I'm in the house alone I'm in heaven, even if I'm just doing chores!
And mine follow me everywhere if I try and sneak off for a bit. Even husband. Why????

This is me. Work FT and then small children. I am 40 very soon and actually have booked the day alone. People think I am mad but I crave being on my own, I never get this time and it is important!

Oh yes. At one point this afternoon, the 3 other members of my household were all asking me questions at the same time. Not 'would you like some peace and quiet?' of course, or even 'can worms hear?', but along the lines of 'where's my....?', 'what are we doing three weeks on Sunday....?'

I don't bloody well know (or care).

I often feel as if my head is going to implode.

I never get 5 seconds to myself. I teach full time and the whole weekend is taken up with planning, marking, laundry, housework, ironing and the house is always full of husband and two teena ge daughters. They inevitably have friends over as well.

Weekends may be busy for you, but at least you have time to yourself during the week, although I am aware that you will have lots of household tasks to do too.

I am knackered permanently and count down the weeks until half term even though I love my job.

Enjoy your peace and quiet during the week!

I've got my mil still here from 16 th December, not a fucking minutes peace. She is totally incapable of watching anything on TV without asking what is going on, made a point of not sitting beside her last night at cinema to see Allied as she would want a running commentary on it. I know just how you feel OP!

I get very agitated and grumpy if I haven't had any time to myself for a while. YANBU.

Yanbu!! I have a barnacle 6 year old and a DH that also needs lots of affection and it wears me down sometimes. I also work as a waitress part time and busy Friday/Saturday/Sunday shifts and going home to people that don't understand I need an hour or 4 of quiet alone time when I get home can be frustrating.

I totally get you OP
I used to get every other weekend "off" when my kids went to their dads. He's now disappeared and so I've had them constantly, day in day out, for nearly 6 months now... they are seriously doing my head in. I work 4 days a week too so cherish my days "off" which consist of supermarket shopping and housework, but at home it's quiet and peaceful and I quite honestly dread having to go and pick them up from school.
If he ever reappears I am sorely tempted to make him have them every fucking weekend for 6 months... Wink

I have worked a 3 sometimes 4 day week for a long time. At one point I took on a second job but after a couple of months I packed it in because the lack of time alone. Once I got my 1-2 days a week back and had 6-12 hours alone whilst dh/dd are out I became a really nice human being again.

You've put your finger on the very reason why I'm a grumpy bugger this weekend and can't seem to snap out of it. And it's only myself and my five year old DD.

Report
hiccupgirl · 29/01/2017 21:48

This is completely me too. 7 yr DS is a limpet and DH is like a puppy who constantly needs attention too, they both do my head in at the weekends.

At least this weekend, DH was away so while I had no break from DS, I only had 1 of them following me around in my headspace.

Luckily I only work 1/2 days on Mon and Tues so I get a couple of hours to myself before the school run. Otherwise I would be going mad.
