AIBU?

To think Paperchase have lost their minds over cock and anal cards

Paperchase have a series of Valentine's cards with such witty captions as "I love your big cock" and "nothing says I love you like anal".

As a high street chain hugely popular with young people, I'd kind of expect them to understand some boundaries about graphic and sexually explicit language.

They're brazening it out on Twitter, claiming their minuscule disclaimer about the cards being rude is absolutely adequate.

Grim.

That is vile.

Totally grim. Yuk. Where's the romance?! Hmm

I like the 'big cock' one.

The others are a bit 'forceful'.

Not something you'd want to display on your mantelpiece.

But nothing does say 'I love you' like anal...

I wouldn't mind if they were at least amusing or clever. But they're not.

There's a card seller that is always on fb with some quite filthy greetings cards, but they look quite classy and are much more entertaining. This looks like a pound shop rip off version

About as funny as the clap.

I think they're funny. And really they're not aimed at children.

I bought one for dh. Says "I hate you the least" on it. I nearly got the cock one as well.

Wow. I've seen these and worse in Scribbler (and laughed!) but agree that you get a lot of kids in Paperchase so it's not appropriate.

Not to my taste, but it wouldn't bother me seeing them on sale.

If it was a choice between one of those and the vomit-inducing 'I love you grumpy pants' on the shelf below I'd rather give/receive a crude one!

Fucking hell. Paper chase is a shop for kids isn't it?

I saw these in there yesterday and was gobsmacked tbh. Stood staring at them trying to figure out the joke, but no, no joke, just ... grim Hmm.

Whoever did their market research must have thought those cards would be sellers or why else produce them?

Bloody grim.

They're defending it to the hilt on Twitter.

Apparently it's ok because they're on a higher shelf.

Kids eyes don't stop working at four ft.

I thought Paperchase's target market was young teens. Most of their stuff seems aimed at that. Totally unsuitable cards, I imagine they'll take them off sale soon due to too many complaints.

Report
Hassled · 25/01/2017 22:12

No, they're not aimed for children which is exactly why they shouldn't be in a shop where there are children. Those are fucking awful.

Report
Waffles80 · 25/01/2017 22:12

It's not the cards in themselves, it's their location!

I wouldn't say Paperchase is for kids... but it's not what you'd expect from them though, Scribbler yes but not Paperchase. I suspect they'll pull out from selling them quickly.

Horrible. No attempt at nuance, wit and not a double entendre to be seen.

Saw a hen party at a motorway services with the bride's mother wearing a t shirt which said 'Bride's mum....loves it up the bum.' she didn't seem to mind ?!?

Totally inappropriate and offensive.

Paperchase is just the sort of shop in which I would have spent all of my pocket money as a 12-14 year old. They target this sort of customer with all their inexpensive stationery items appealing to children.

It's so sleazy and low rent. They should leave this to bawdier shops like Scribbler.

Fuckin' ell; romance ain't just dead, it's embalmed and lying in a frigging crypt. Hmm

Advertising anal sex as an indicator of 'love'Hmmwhoever thought it was suitable is a fucking idiot.
