AIBU?

AIBU to fanny around when baby is asleep?

DD (3 weeks old) is fats asleep and there's a list of 100 things I could/should get done.
Ive spent moat of the day feeding her, changing nappies, watching TV, eating and even managed to wash and blow-dry my hair because DH had baby while I had a bath.
I even had a sleep an hour or so ago.
Life before baby was manically busy (full time primary teacher) and now it's simple and really quite nice.
Should I carry on in this kind of lazy way or should I mashup tidy up/ declutter and do laundry?

Oh definitely take a break! They're intense when awake! Everyone needs a chance to relax.

Omg, no, don't start tidying! If you're fed, have had a nap, clean (in that order of importance), and baby is sleeping, then you should do something you enjoy, like reading, watching TV, or gazing at your baby and smelling her head. And that's IT for at least the first 8-12 weeks.

Take it easy! They are more exhausting than you realise.... and your dc is only 3 weeks! Plus, now is a great time to be excused from staying in pj's all day!

Stick a wash load in so you feel you have done something if you want to but I would do nothing.
You have been working - babies are tiring so resting even if that isn't sleeping is important.
I may have just sat and fed the baby and had cuddles this morning whilst eating chocolate and watching tv instead of doing anything

3 week old and you're managing to blowdry your hair? Congratulations! You've achieved enough for one day. Definitely NO tidying up. Grin

I do the washing and the ironing and that's about it as far as household chores are concerned. When baby sleeps in the morning, I shower and wash my hair and put some make up on, because it makes me feel more put together when I'm elbow deep in nappies! Then if she sleeps in the afternoon, I try to nap too.

I remember being absolutely amazed at how little I got done when I was at home all day with my baby (who spent a reasonable amount of time sleeping). I didn't feel guilty about it though - and neither should you!

Thank you! I too have been blown away by how little I've managed to get done! I had wanted to write a book in my 'free time'!!!

I was the same OP. I'd planned to do a number of courses while I'm on mat leave. My baby's just over 2 weeks. I get nothing done other than attend to his needs! I cooked dinner tonight and that felt like a marathon.

Oh definitely enjoy it whilst you can Smile I made the most of ds sleeping a lot when he was younger by doing what I wanted...nice shower, doing my hair and make up, lots of cups of tea in front of the tv. Now he is crawling and climbing it's much harder as he doesn't lay or sit still for 30 seconds when he's awake! Nap times are now dedicated to me time Wink

My baby is 2 weeks old. I feel I've done enough if I manage to shower and wash my hair. Occasionally I chuck stuff in the washing machine.

DD2 is 4 weeks. I also have a 3 year old.

So far I manage to wash up the dishes we use during the day and 2 loads of washing. I get DD1 dressed and on a good day I might sweep/vacuum or groom the dog! I manage to shower most evenings (running out of time this evening though!) I've blow dried my hair once.

This thread makes me feel better. DS is 8 weeks and I'be been really worried at how little I've been managing to achieve in a day. If I've had a shower, a cup of tea and put a wash on I feel like I've accomplished loads!

Ive been surprised at how much I feel like I've been hit with a house brick. (I'm just getting over a raging viral infection that's knocked me sideways too.) But when baby was 3 weeks I'd forgotten to brush my hair so frequently that i had an actual deadlock.

DS is nearly one and I'm going to be starting writing that book any damage now...
Rest. Stare at the TV and enjoy any spare.second you can. You feel.you are being lazy but your body needs the rest.
I'm currently job hunting as I need the rest from DS...

I just did the washing maybe pre cooked a meal and if you really feel like it do the ironing while you watch tv! But honestly I'd have some time to yourself.

I had to look after my grandson full time for 10 weeks-twice! Admittedly he was 2 at the time, but when he went for his afternoon nap, I was high-fiving round the lounge, got the fire on and did wall to wall 'Escape to the Country'. I could have done lots but I didn't. No-one died!
Enjoy yourself, wait til she's crawling!

Try to do a couple of bits & bobs (load washing machine or prep dinner) but enjoy the quiet time as it's important for your health.

Also baby cuddles & staring at your baby/taking pictures are vital! Your baby will never be this small again so enjoy it 😍🤗. My DS is a few months older & every day I spend lots of time cuddling him, playing & staring at him. It's the best parts of ML
