Panicking and think I've been really stupid. Should have started period yesterday am on pill and its clockwork usually always has been.

Was on a ten day course of antibiotics this month finished them yesterday- DTD twice during that time. Only just thought antibiotics can interfere with the pill can't they? Am I panicking over nothing as we DTD towards end of my cycle? Do you still ovulate on the pill? Can't get out of work to get a test until after 7.

Not all antibiotics interfere with the pill. Look up what you were on to check.

I think on most antibiotics the advice is to wear a condom. I'd test tbh

I was told by my Doctor and Nurser that antibiotics in general don't affect the pill anymore and that it was outdated advice. However there are still some that can, but your doctor should have said that when prescribing them, I would call the doctors to check

I would do a pregnancy test.

It's not outdated advice. Not all ABs affect contraception but I've just been on a course and was specifically told it would and it said the same on the pharmacy label.

The advice has changed in recent years, it's now recognised that the vast majority of antibiotics don't interact with the pill. The ones that do aren't commonly used, and would only be prescribed for very specific infections. So you're probably fine. Sometimes illness itself can throw off your cycle a bit. I'd give it a few days.

Wait a few days. Perhaps whatever condition you were on antibiotics for has messed with your cycle.
Id wait, as even if you ARE pregnant you may still get a neg result as the hormone levels won't be very high if you are only one day late.

Either way, do your best to try not to stress x

Thanks everyone maybe I'm late as I've been under the weather? (First time ever though!)

It's not the antibiotics themselves only though it is that some give side effects like a bad stomach that can affect the oral pills too.

Did you read the leaflet? Meds that mess around with the pill usually give a warning on the leaflet. I think my Dr joked you'd have to have dysentery for the pill to fail.

Does that mean you can then sue your laughing doc when that happens?

No, no, no. Am not having this. Am not having another possible pregnant thread, with no resolution. Go away, take a test, and then update us. I can't live my life on tenterhooks like this!

I will update! No news yet- this is definitely weird but as others said antibiotics shouldn't interfere with the pill so I'm hopeful all is ok...

When I felt 'under the weather' and realised I was late, I got a BFP both times.

I had strong antibiotics and they made me ovulate late so my period was three weeks late. I got negative tests so went to the GP who said that if antibiotics are strong enough they can temporarily interfere with hormone levels. Period arrived a few days later so definitely wasn't pregnant but I didn't factor in that it would have a knock on effect for my next cycle and that is when I got pregnant.

My DSIS's antibiotic baby is 13 this year.....! Grin

If you remember the name of the antibiotics I would check online and see if it says anything about side effects with the pill.
