So who do you think got the job?

It is a very niche, complex area of work, and one in which women are very much the minority (around 5% women).

Candidate A:

Female. Over 20 years relevant experience. Currently working on all of the issues and could hit the ground running. Has worked in the organisation before (in a different but related role) and has huge and relevant contact list from this time. Has a good reputation in this field. Seen by former colleagues in the organisation as a shoo in and very good news. Is bilingual in language that would be useful to have for this job, but not essential. Undergraduate degree, but not in subject relevant to the job.

Candidate B:

Male. No relevant experience at all in this field and no knowledge of the issues. Good track record in what he does, but there is no read across from that to this job at all. Has never worked in the organisation, but his wife works there. Agreement from colleagues that if he got the job it would be a really steep learning curve. PhD from Cambridge in irrelevant subject.

The female candidate should
But I'd wager the male candidate did.

GlitterGlue Wed 25-Jan-17 13:16:31

B?

Snifftest Wed 25-Jan-17 13:16:41

Candidate B is the clearly better for the job.

You left off that its a job using machinery that can only be operated with your penis.

kelper Wed 25-Jan-17 13:16:57

I want to say candidate A, but having thought about it, I'm going to say B :-/

GlitterGlue Wed 25-Jan-17 13:17:42

Yep, a penis outweighs all experience.

ThatsWotSheSaid Wed 25-Jan-17 13:18:15

Is the job for a male escort?

Tunnocksmallow Wed 25-Jan-17 13:18:21

Gonna go out on a limb here and say candidate B?
Oh how I hope I'm wrong.

EurusHolmes Wed 25-Jan-17 13:19:54

Oh god this has made me angry just thinking about it. Why, just why, should B get the job?

MelaniasBlueDress Wed 25-Jan-17 13:26:23

Yes, it was candidate B, who apparently answered one of the interview questions better than candidate A. (Candidate A was judged to be "well above the line".) Experience and subject knowledge were not taken into consideration, apparently.

Horsemad Wed 25-Jan-17 13:27:41

Bloody outrageous.

MelaniasBlueDress Wed 25-Jan-17 13:29:43

But what can candidate A do?

ImperialBlether Wed 25-Jan-17 13:29:52

That is absolutely disgraceful.

ImperialBlether Wed 25-Jan-17 13:30:19

Be honest - has anyone ever said that candidate A is difficult to work with/for?

GloGirl Wed 25-Jan-17 13:31:15

Phone ACAS?

MelaniasBlueDress Wed 25-Jan-17 13:35:40

Imperial - Candidate A has an excellent proven track record for staff management and leadership and getting on with people. Candidate B - no idea.

JennyOnAPlate Wed 25-Jan-17 13:37:29

What candidate A should do is get legal advice. Absolutely disgraceful.

BadKnee Wed 25-Jan-17 13:38:40

So why?

MelaniasBlueDress Wed 25-Jan-17 13:39:09

Why what, BadKnee?

PeridotPassion Wed 25-Jan-17 13:39:16

Was it a competency based interview?

If so, YABU (possibly)...IME of these type of interviews, prior experience and all that is what gets you the interview. How you answer the questions is what getting the job depends on.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow Wed 25-Jan-17 13:40:12

That's awful. Are you candidate A OP? Or one of the interviewers? If you were part of the panel can you raise it with HR?

bumsexatthebingo Wed 25-Jan-17 13:40:32

Are you A by an chance op?

ImperialBlether Wed 25-Jan-17 13:41:51

Should we assume you are A?

There are plenty of HR people who are on these boards - they might be the best to advise you.

BadKnee Wed 25-Jan-17 13:42:05

Why did B get the job in your view? In whose interest is it? It must be of benefit to someone - his wife maybe. It is disgraceful - but what is at work here in your view, (aside from basic sexism)?

gillybeanz Wed 25-Jan-17 13:42:40

Candidate A should seek advice legal/ union if it isn't the place of their work.
if it's their usual employer, look for a job where they are appreciated and leave, the company obviously can't employ the right people what else can't they do?
