She looks so vulnerable here on this short clip

And more analysis here:

None of them were cheesing before DJ turned round, they all cheesed when he did and stopped cheesing when he turned back.

It was fucking freezing on Friday and let's face it the whole thing was low on entertainment value. Her face reads "cold, feet killing, bored to shit, where are the Rockettes s at least?".

MO had her best resting bitch face on most of the day too.

Well at least she can live in New York when he's in Washington. That is what I believe she plans to do.

I wasn't convinced just by the look on her face, but if you look at him, he is grinning at everyone then just before he turns back he turns slightly to Melania and his cheek drops, no more smiling and he says something, then turns back round looking pretty pleased with himself.

Without that, I could have believed Melania just had aching cheeks from all the enforced smiling, but there is something sinister about the sudden drop of his cheek.

I saw this too. She really doesn't look happy :-( I wonder if it was just stress of the day but her change of face was so immediate

She looks like she can't stand the sight of him, that's all. I wouldn't say wounded or troubled, just disgusted - but let's face it, their marriage was never based on love or attraction physically or mentally.

Thefitfatty Wed 25-Jan-17 12:58:34

Why in the world would she be happy? Regardless of whether they can make any of the sexual assault cases stick she's with a man that's cheated on his past two wives, talked about trying to cheat on her, and has been accused of sleeping with prostitutes. I'm sure she feels completely stuck and furious.

Is there no end to this?

I think people are reading way more into this than there is. She may not be happy who actually knows? But in that instance it could be anything. It could be she hates him and smiled because he was looking. It could be that she was in high heels and a dress in Washington in January in the rain and it was bloody freezing and ridiculously boring so she smiled when he turned round commenting on the joke about the rain then went back to freezing and miserable when he turned bac .
I find it highly unlikely he said anything horrid to her with so many people around him. If nothing else it would get out somehow. Someone would spill about it

MakeItStopNeville Wed 25-Jan-17 13:13:10

I can't stand him but I don't know what all the fuss is about here. Ivanka did exactly the same thing. The minister was praying for them so they went from a joke to a serious bit. Melania just has rbf with added Botox.

MakeItStopNeville Wed 25-Jan-17 13:14:04

Plus, she was clearly very nervous throughout.

TSSDNCOP Wed 25-Jan-17 13:25:49

Also don't compare any of them to the blonde behind - I watched the Inauguration and was struck that she looked like she had a hanger in her mouth right through.

GoesDownLikeACupOfColdSick Wed 25-Jan-17 14:19:23

She knows that most of the world hates her husband and that there are huge demonstrations about him across the country. Wouldn't you look a bit uncomfortable?!

StripeyCover Wed 25-Jan-17 14:32:46

I think this is just anti-Trump vitriol in disguise. There are so many threads on MN on this. They are all the same. Possibly by the same person. But really its just a smear campaign to my mind, and about as politically low as you can go.

WannaBe Wed 25-Jan-17 14:36:17

Can't stand him but all this desperation to prove she's in an abusive relationship is a bit desperate.

She married a man with past form, and she married him for his money. It's not as if she didn't know what she was marrying and yet she did anyway. But to suggest he said something nasty to her during a public event is ridiculous even by his standards.

QuimReaper Wed 25-Jan-17 14:43:00

Stripey does anybody "disguise" their vitriol for Trump? Why on earth would they?

PigletWasPoohsFriend Wed 25-Jan-17 14:45:05

and ^this.

TiredAndRavenous Wed 25-Jan-17 15:25:34

I think people are looking into this far too much, give her/them a break. Honestly imagine being in that situation, millions of people watching, loads of former presidents and high up people footsteps away, I'd feel damb uncomfortable!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed Wed 25-Jan-17 15:38:54

he could have possibly turned round and said are you ok, I love you,

and that is why she smiled and then returned to looking more serious as it wasn't the time to stand there smile

but we don't want to believe that there is a nice side to Trump it is more comfortable for us to believe he is just nasty it suits us better but people are rarely all one way or the other we are all complex and the people who have done the most terrible cruel acts they will always be someone to tell you something nice about them

RortyCrankle Wed 25-Jan-17 17:00:39

Not more of this crap. How many threads do we need? They have been married for what? 11 or 12 years. If she was so fucking unhappy, she's had plenty of time to leave him if that's what she wanted.

Under normal circumstances I doubt Trump would have won (I certainly wouldn't have voted for him) but Clinton would have been horrendously bad as POTUS for so many reasons. So why can't we at least give it longer than a few days to judge his actions.

Let rip, don't care that you will obviously disagree as you are nearly all gripped in Trump hate hysteria.
