AIBU?

To have avoided responding?

So, I'm on a Facebook forum. Someone is going through a divorce and is finding it hard.

Someone else said 'You are going to be okay! Divorce is tough but it won't last.'

I REALLLLLY want to ask what kind of crappy divorce lawyer did she have that it didn't last. The whole point of divorce is that it is permanent.

But I can't. Because someone is going through a hard time.

But I have a pent up response that needs to be posted, so iabu and posting it here instead.

Sorry to waste your time!

I doubt they meant the divorce wouldn't last but the feelings associated and surrounding it would eventually disperse. I think you're misinterpreting it.

If divorce didn't last, I'm sure a lot fewer people would be arsed with the whole process.

I assume they meant the process of divorcing and the tough time, sadness etc surrounding it won't last.

'Of course Divorce lasts - that's the beauty of it'

Your reading it wrong, it's regarding the feelings not the actually divorce

I'm presuming the op person meant that the feeling tough and hard won't be forever not that the divorce isn't permanent

Sorry crossed post due to my slow typing

I think you know what is meant, try being a bit more supportive of someone having a hard time rather than correcting the grammar of others who are.

The tough, difficult times won't last. It's badly worded but clear what was meant.

I think the op realises what they meant but just had a sarcastic response that needed venting somewhere

Grin Thats one of those thoughts you can think but probably should not express to anyone.

It's obvious what they meant, stop being a dick.

Of course I knew what they meant! And the whole point of posting here was so that I didn't make light on the actual post itself.

Dear me, do I really come across as that dim?

Sorry - my post was what I'd suggest as a response to the FB post - I had gathered you didn't take the FB post literally.

Well now you know how the author of the FB post would have felt if you had said something. Not very nice is it?

That's you told then. How dare you have a terribly inappropriate response pop into your head and refrain from actually responding, and then tell us about it.

You'd better get over to the thread where everyone's telling dirty secrets, it'll cheer you right up :)

You did actually, but that's the problem with reading text without expressions and body language Grin

I feel your pain. I often want to post the first smart-arse thing that comes to mind.
