AIBU?

To be unable to sleep without the sound of rain?

I implore everyone here to not go down the path I have - leaving a one hour audio clip of heavy rain while you sleep! Seriously, it is incredibly, incredibly addictive. You get to a point that you can't sleep without it.

It's DH's fault. He absolutely loves sleeping when heavy rain is falling - to the point he downloaded a one hour audio clip from YouTube of heavy rain falling. He then put it on his phone and when he went to bed, he would put earphones in his ears and fall to sleep like a baby. I always used to mock him for it, but one afternoon I was feeling pretty tired but couldn't take a nap. I decided to listen to the audio of rain falling and I fell asleep instantly. And so peacefully. So now, like DH, I'm hooked. And so is DD1 and her husband; they actually leave on a laptop that's hooked to speakers, all night.

I honestly wish I had never started this, because I absolutely find it so hard to fall asleep without the sound of rain now.

It's all DH's fault.

I'm like your DH to the point that I need a bit of weather in the room to be happy. If it's raining, snowing, windy...whatever....my window is wide open. My perfect night is the rain actually landing on my face as I drift off. I keep myself cocooned in the duvet so none gets on my body though. Grin

I've often been tempted to sleep outside but I realise that's not the norm and people might think I'm weird.

I do this, nothing else sends me to sleep without the "rain on window" 1hr YouTube video.

Have you listened to rain on tent? It's also very relaxing.

Why did I read this right now, as I am laying in bed struggling to get to sleep and really really really bloody tired!!!

So tempted to give it a listen, but the knowledge it's becoming a problem for you is holding me back.

What to do, WHAT TO DO!?

Ah, I love the sound of heavy rain on glass and especially on a conservatory roof. Then there's that lovely fresh smell when it's rainy too that you never get at any other time.
Where did you say this rain video is btw? Grin

Billy do it! It's not hard to have the sounds handy when mobiles are so reliable.

I love the 'urban rain' sound on my app, always sends me off when I'm struggling!

What app is that ilovewelshrarebit? Sounds good

I listen to a rain app but I need to alternate it or I get too used to it and can't sleep. My favourite is listening to earthcam so it's a real time webcam with sound of a street in Dublin. However there's no timer feature which is annoying.

I went camping in the summer. It was chilly at night, with a slight smattering of rain and I unzipped the window just enough to feel a tiny bit of breeze on my face. I've never slept so well

We moved a year ago from a busy main road in a city to a rural village. I really struggle to sleep without the busy background noise of traffic so I feel your pain in some way!

I have an (Android) app called Baby Sleep Sounds which I downloaded when DD and I were back in hospital when she was 5 weeks old and we didn't have Ewan the dream sheep. White noise really helps her sleep, but now I use it when she's not even with me, you're right that it's addictive! But it's so nice!

That app has all sorts on it, rain, Hoover, car, waves, etc. and you can set it to play endlessly

I have a white noise app on my phone. It is basically a heavy rainfall. Now I can't fall asleep without it. I take it with me if I stay away from home. I listen to it in the evening if I want to switch off and relax. Now if I'm in silence I hear every little sound. I'm completely hooked.

I can only sleep with white noise... I have a fan on next to the bed. Even when it's bloody freezing. Need to find a noise app!

Best rain noise app I've found (for iOS) is called 'rain rain'.
It's really great, has loads of different rain sounds plus loads of others such as waves, running water, fires, thunder, birds song etc etc, and you can control it in the lock screen which is really handy. Love it.

I could have written this, op!

I bought my husband a cd a few years ago with rain and thunder on (Peter samuels - global journey: thunderstorm, if you're interested) and he used to put it on his phone to go to sleep.

It got to the point where we both needed it and it just went on as we got in bed every single night!

We now have a 6 month old so can't listen to that but it has been replaced by Ewan the fecking dream sheep. He's on pretty much all night and it's not even for the baby, it's for us!

Pandora do you ever wake up in a complete panic that your house is on fire!?

I play a clip on YouTube of waves crashing on a beach for my DS if he's really struggling to nap. That's quite nice, but it's in real time and comes with a video so it just makes me want a holiday!

I'm a big fan of;

asoftmurmur.com

It has sliders so that you can add in some thunder, wind and alike too

You nutter, I've just found that rain on window video on YouTube, what a bloody racket! That noise has the opposite effect on me Grin
I like silence to fall asleep to. And my head is swivelling at the thought of wanting to sleep with rain on your face, but each to their own!

I love my rain app. Am about to open window, snuggle in bed and put it on. Sure fire way for me to sleep

I live in Australia and, as is still quite common here, my house has a metal roof, so have grown used to the sound of rain, very soothing.

I'm like cherry moved from London to the arse end of nowhere and I can't sleep without a rumble of traffic blaring from my phone each night. Grin
