AIBU?

To wish I had left DS in the city centre?

Cause I'm that annoyed with him. We started out quite well, walking in town. Started to play up in boots so back in the bugyy. Minor tantrum. Informed me he was hungry (was only about 12, not late for us for dinner by any means). I wanted to look in a few shops, was perhaps 20 minutes?

On the way up for food, and because DS had been quite good thus far, he was allowed a go on bob the builder ride. Thoroughly enjoyed it, came off and demanded a go on the other one. Screaming, kicking balling his eyes out, ungrateful little....grrr.

Got to the cafe where we were going to eat, DS delighting in looking at all the yummy things. Brought him what to him is a perfectly acceptable roll, and did my best to disguise a cookie for after. DS was disgusted that I had not purchased a muffin for him and lay on the floor by the counter, refused to come and sit down. Back in the buggy again then. Hence an apporximately 15 minute tantrum with everyone looking at us, then he manages to escape from his strapped in buggy, (contortionist?)come and sit up the table and eat his dinner like a well behaved little boy.

Round town, trying to buy pressies for three different people, more tantrums, chucking toys out of buggy, I heard a lad call him a little shit and thought you are exactly right!

Bus home, one minor tantrum. Off bus, refuses to walk and hold my hand, back in buggy another huge tantrum. So now we are home. And I don't care that it is 4pm and too late for a nap. I bloody need him to have one else he might find him standing outside the door in the rain with one more tantrum.

On the upside, I have something for everyone and only forgot one card which DP will be going to get else they won't get one!!!

not unreasonable!!!

Have a cup of tea and congratulate yourself for holding it together!

Then laugh it off.

Ah pg so can't! I have to confess, I really did shout at him on the way home after the last tantrum! I think the words 'shut up' were in there somewhere.

God - I can't remember that far back - they are at that awful age aren't they - you just can't get them to agree to do anything and no amount of cajoling works.

DS is a bit of a brat most of the time - mind you we have just got him to sleep through to 7.30 - it means sending him to bed later but just to be able to wake up in the morning without him climbing over me is bliss!!

They are lovely though aren't they - he is so bloody cheeky but so loving - as much he is a sod!!

Well done for still loving himI had a hideous similiar experience recently where dd decided to do a whole months tantruming in the one day. Mumsnet has never been so welcome as no one else except mums know that feeling. On a brighter note it is very nearly wine o clock, which as we all know comes earlier on a Friday

um, do you not think expecting a 2yo to happily follow you about all day doing what you want to do (i know you needed to but he doesnt get that, or care) and be mature enough to understand he cant have everything he wants, when he wants it, is expecting a bit much?
it is a bugger when they tantrum, esp in public, but you kinda gotta expect a 2 yo to be a 2yo... and always have placatory snacks/drinks/toys/books/whatever tricks up your sleeve to distract from going fully into immminent tantrums when out and about. tis mental not to.

i do sympathise, hope i dont sound harsh, coz i really dont mean to be, but you see my point??

NG, I don't expect to get around town for a few hours without any tantrums, more the point that today was pretty much just one constant tantrum after the initial half an hour. And he had things to look at and do, and a snack of fruit, but he just genuinely had it about him yesterday! Today, meanwhile he has been a joy...

Well I sympathise. Last night my 21 month old ds was awake from 11-1 yelling and then from 4am up and ready to start his day. It's all to do with jet lag and it is completely my fault for taking him to the other side of the world and back again. Still wanted to put him in the shed though....it's tough isn't it, so tough some days/nights.
