AIBU?

To just want one spontaneous labour?!

Aaaarggh I'm desperate to experience going into labour without being induced!!! 39+5, other two were induced because they were very overdue, and they were very big babies too....had a sweep on Friday just gone, had lots of bloody gunky stuff all weekend, niggles, amounted to nothing!!!! Reluctant to go the full 2 weeks overdue due to huge baby.....I'm at my wits end 😞 I am huge, everyone keeps ASKING me have I not had the baby yet?! Yes sorry I've left him at home this is a cushion up my top!

I've tried bouncing, walking, spicy stuff, nipple stimulation, sex etc etc and nothing works.

I don't know why I'm stressing so much as not even due until Wednesday but I just want so badly for this labour to start on it's own.....

You have two weeks until you need to be induced. I know that feels like forever but it gives you loads and loads of time honestly.

Really, really, really long walk and get your oh to give you a foot massage tonight...

I feel the same but I'm only 16 weeks so I have plenty of time to stress over this. I've also been induced twice and want to avoid it a 3rd time as much as possible

ALL medical treatment (including induction of labour) is performed on the basis of informed consent. If you don't want to have your labour induced then don't consent to it. Problem solved.

If you have tried all the stuff to get it going, I would go the other way.

Get the freezer stocked etc, batten down the hatches and go hippy.

Relax, bathe (I used to run a deep bath with my twins to take the weight and watch them create eathquakes), meditate, enjoy the baby. Definitely the foot massage Softly is having. Then, at least if you have to go for induction, you will have enjoyed yourself.

I have no idea if this really works (I read about it on the internet) but I took evening primrose oil capsules towards the end with DS. You can put them up your fanjo if you are that way inclined (or that desperate!) but I just took two high strength capsules orally a day. Was in labour two days later and this was before my due date.

Might be worth a try? I also ate half a pineapple the night before so it could have been that!

Feel your pain. I'm 39+3. I'm struggling. I went over by a week with dd but this time I feel so bloody awful I just don't think I can cope. Hoping the midwife will do a sweep today. I just want my baby. I know what is about to hit me and it is still preferable to this!

Oh and I've tried all the old wives tales too!

Maybe you should plan something really important for Wednesday. Or schedule something that you really want to do. Or continually dress in all of your most expensive clothes and make sure you only sit on expensive leather or cream sofas.

My waters went and labour started an hour before my alarm went off to go in to be induced at 2 weeks overdue!

3 inductions for being Post-dates here. By the last one my midwife arranged for it to happen "early" at only +9 days as we both knew it wasn't going to happen any other way Grin

I really feel for you. Been overdue with all of mine. Last one only just avoided induction by a day (+13 over)

Whatever way you look at it though, it really cannot be much longer now. It's all worth it Flowers

Maybe you just cook them longer?
Book nice things to look forward to over the next few weeks and that might help ease the pain of going over due. I also mentally ignored the EDD third and fourth times (to the point I can't honestly remember them even) and figured "around 41 weeks" was accurate. Lots of sex and orgasms. Lots of long hot baths and I also booked sweeps for week 41 though was already in the early stages of labour with no four on the day of my sweep.
Try to enjoy the last few weeks of pregnancy.

I know it's easier said than done but try to stop stressing. The hormones you release when you're stressed tell your body that it isn't safe and it can prevent labour. None of the old wives tales work really, you have to release a hormone from the placenta to get labour started. Nipple tweaking and sex can cause you to release it but you really need to persevere.

Was 2 weeks overdue and had induction with my first baby, but the second was born 10 days after her due date a few hours after second sweep. She was born in less than 2 hours at the hospital, they didn't even had time to give me pain relief (even though I was desperately shouting for it!). Good luck with everything, baby could be here tomorrow, you never know :)

Have hope OP - 40+16 (induced) for dc1, 40+10 for dc2 and 40+1 for dc3. Final two both spontaneous. I was flabbergasted when I went into labour with dc3 on my due date Shock
It's hard waiting. Hang on in there.

Same as namechangefail my son decided he'd start himself on the morning of my induction for being 12 days over! Been an awkward bugger ever since!
I am expecting to go over again this time 38+6 with another boy and nothing so far.
Easier said than done but you really should try to chill and stop thinking about it, I have also heard that stress inhibits the release of the hormone that kickstarts labour like slimjim said

Speak while evening sitting on ball rotating and using breast pump (6 hours). Next morning dc3 arrived

Thanks everyone, I know I don't have to agree to an induction however with the size of the baby and the worry about the placenta failing that's just not an option for me!

I keep getting excited because I get pains or lose some more gunky stuff and that never happened with the other two. I guess I need to stop getting my hopes up just in case! I have another sweep booked for Friday with the consultant so hopefully when she examines me I will have progressed a bit more and maybe that one will do the trick!

I just always feel so envious when I hear about people experiencing early labour at home and not being there for days!

I feel your pain, I had a horrible long induced first birth. When I pregnant with my second I would have done anything not to be induced. This is going back 6 years ago but apparently after you hit ur due date you can ask for a sweep every 48 hours. I ended up having 3 and it started labour! If the midwifes say they are too busy to come to you offer to go to them! Good luck

Patienceandchocolate · 16/01/2017 15:09

I had a long induction with lots of intervention with DC1 who was eventually born at 42+1. DC2 was born at 41 weeks after a spontaneous labour and no interventions or pain relief.

There is still lots of time and you could still go into spontaneous labour.

Good luck. However, baby is born it will all be worth it.
