AIBU?

To want to never go to the cinema again?

Every. Single. Time. I go to the cinema, there's at least one person who talks/texts/crunches through the film and generally does their best to ruin it for everyone. I usually feel too hesitant to say anything as they've already proven themselves lunatics who care not for others.

Last night it was LA LA Land. Absolutely brilliant, gorgeous film, ruined by some tosser who decided to loudly tap his foot throughout every musical number. He wasn't even in time.

I love watching films but AIBU to not spend any more money on going out to see them, because no one knows how to behave politely? We have Netflix, Google and Amazon video I suppose...

Could you have moved or was the cinema full?

i hate it too. There is always some tosser who ruins the film. Last time I said to the woman next to me can you please turn your phone off (constant texting, bright light) I've paid to watch this film not your phone. She went ballistic! I left and got the usher and she was asked to leave haha.

I know, it is annoying.
Last night I went to see la la land as well. There was someone there who had a learning disability and was shouting out a lot of the time. They were over the other side of the cinema. I obviously found it annoying but then felt bad for feeling like that as it was probably something they were really excited about and looking forward to, and that they probably have much less things that they enjoy in life than me. I still can't quite decide whether it is an ok thing to do or not? I hate to think of people being excluded from so many areas of life but it probably spoilt the film for a lot of people.

I dunno, you sound very easily annoyed if foot tapping and chewing distract and enrage you.

Yanbu. Reason we not been for 15 years now as well as the price and how loud the film is. Nope, better in your own room!

With a heavy heart acquiescence I think that if your enjoyment of the occasion seriously spoils it for the rest of the audience you've got to go. I once had a classical concert - the sort where you sit in silence and are embarrassed if you cough - ruined by one chap who could not do that.

See, I think it's odd to expect to watch a movie in a room with 50+ other people and for everyone to be silent as the grave and unflinching for the entire 180 minutes. If you want to watch a film in utter silence and stillness watch it at home. Going to the movies is a communal thing where it's normal to snack and laugh and ask your neighbour if that's "wossname from the thing we saw when our Jude was visiting". I like it. It's jolly.

It's the wriggling that gets me... The chairs are all connected and the bouncing/wriggling transfers all the way along. I only go when the film has been out a while and the cinema is almost empty. Too many peoples...

We always wait until a film has been out for a few weeks, so that most people have seen it already, then book seats in the back row corner, so no one can sit behind us and only on one side of us Smile

Oh come off it msrisotto. Incessant, loud, out-of-time foot tapping through a musical is quite obviously very annoying.

This is exactly the reason why I don't go to the cinema. Last time I went was to see The Force Awakens and some twat behind me crunched and rustled their way through something or other really fucking loudly.
Couldn't move as it was completely full.

It's a shame as I like seeing films with great special effects on the big screen but just can't be doing with all the selfish bastards.

You can't expect stillness and silence but you can expect a certain amount of courtesy. Using your bloody mobile phone deserves for you to have it taken away and flushed down the loo. Maybe they should make that a rule!

I don,t think she is being unreasonable at all MsRisotto, if adults can't shut the fuck up and sit still for a couple of hours they should be in a ball park not a cinema. People have paid good money for their seats, they should be considerate towards everyone else in there.

I feel your pain though I must confess to being an absolute fidget in those tiny seats, can never get comfy. I always have to sit at the back and on the end so not next to anyone but the person I'm with.

Saw Collateral Beauty a couple of weeks ago and this girl in front texted the whole way through ! What's the point of going if you're not going to watch stay at bloody home ! Also people who get up and town to go to loo every 5 mins ggrrrrrrr!

And as for the trousers ruined because of chewing gum on the seat...

YANBU. We all know the unwritten rules of visiting the cinema. That's why people who need to make stupid comments usually say them relatively quietly. That's why selfish bastards hold their bright phones down and at arms length, as though that makes it any better. They all know, they just break the rules because they are awful people.

The worst are people who yell out what they think is about to happen. Either we figured that out already so shut up, or you're wrong so shut up, or you're ruining the ending so shut up. Just shut up!

Maybe people should have to temporarily surrender their phones when they enter the theatre. And quieter foods should be made compulsory! Grin

That would've driven me to distraction! I would have asked him to stop.

My cinema experience has improved exponentially since I started going only to a 'naice' one where you sit at little tables and people are better behaved.

I begrudge paying £10+ to sit in a cold cinema (always freezing cold!) and watch a film I could see for free in a couple months time.

I saw La La Land last night as well. (Loved it Smile)

There were a few annoying individuals at the cinema. The guy next to me arrived after the film had started. The lady next to dd slurped her drink very noisily and kept getting up, going out of the auditorium and then coming back in again. Each time she went in and out, she would wave her sparkly walking stick in dd's face as she tried to unfold it.

Undoubtedly, these people behaved inconsiderately (and dd and I wondered how said lady managed to follow the film at all!) but it's just the way things go when you go to the cinema. We certainly didn't let it spoil the film for us at all.

Foot tapping might be a bit irritating, but the volume in every cinema I've ever visited is usually quite loud, so I do think it's usually possible to tune out and ignore these things, if you choose not to focus on them.

Anyway, yanbu for not going to the cinema ever again if you really can't learn to tune out. It doesn't really affect anyone but you.

I HATE going to the cinema as i can’t bear people, talking, eating loudly, fidgeting, look at their phones etc. I ascribe to the Mark Kermode Cinema Code of Conduct.

I'm with you OP, last time I went was to see "Silence of the Lambs".

Yes but in the States everyone cheers and shouts out loud. Not like us Brits who like to sit in complete silence and speak to no-one.

We we're at the cinema yesterday and I kept wondering when thye were going to turn the lights off properly. The whole row to the side of me was illuminated.

The boys I took behaved well, though the one next to me ate a whole bag of Doritos to himself as well as the munch box I bought him.....I was sooo tempted to take the damn thing off him
