Or did this energy company representative act horribly?

Sorry for the length of this.

TLDR man sort of pretended to be from my energy company to dupe me into switching providers and then acts incredibly sexist.

I answered the door about 40 minutes ago to a man (let's call him Bob) who told me he was here to install a smart meter. I switched my providers (I'm on prepayment) a few months ago to OVO because they are rolling out smart meters and it would make my life easier.

I asked if Bob was from OVO and he said OVO are 40% of our business, I stupidly thought this meant Utilitita (the company he was from) overarched OVO and they had sent him. I checked his ID and let him in.

He explained lots about the smart meters and accessed the meters. After this he filled out my details and had to call his company to confirm some things. He then said they were going to call me and to put the phone on loud speaker. I did as instructed and throughout the conversation Bob was telling me what to say to the person on the phone (we'll call him Tim) E.g. What tariff are you on? Bob looks at me and says 'premium' (which I don't even think I am). Eventually it became clear that he was signing me up to switch companies.

I asked Tim if this was the case and he confirmed. Cue Bob getting very uncomfortable. I became pretty upset and explained to Tim that I'd been a bit duped. Bob then says 'just let your husband talk' Angry 'I told him I was perfectly capable of talking myself and would like him to leave. He left and Tim confirmed that this should not have happened and he will have his manager listen to the recording and hopefully get back to me.

That's awful!
I was once conned into a bank account I didn't need.
We should probably really look into how salespeople are paid.
Good thing you were onto him so quick - it could've been a right mess for you to sort out after.

That's the thing, part of me didn't question it for a while because I felt a little sorry for the guy.
