AIBU?

Is anyone else unable to function at all if they're tired?

I'm just shit at "managing" on less than 7 hours of sleep. If I get woken up or have a bad night, then I can't DO anything the next day.

I am dozy, grumpy and clumsy....other people seem to manage! WHy can't I?

Other people often don't really manage! I think they go onto autopilot. I used to get three hours some nights when my children were babies, sometimes having to work the next day. (I was part time) I'm sure I looked like I was managing to most people but the reality was I was barely holding it together underneath.

I'm the same except I need 8 hours. I literally don't understand when people come into work complaining that they only got a couple of hours sleep because of their kids and yet they're fully functional.

I power through on a healthy mix of caffeine and sugar.

Spam ideally I need 8...then I function well but I can cope on 7. I was shit at the baby stage. As soon as my DD;s hit about 3, I just stopped waking up if they called out! Blush DH luckily did wake up...

You can get by on too little sleep, but not operate 100% Some need more than others, it is down to the individual. It is kind of like a bank where you can't keep taking money out without leaving deposits to cover for your costs. Try and strike a balance..

I used to ne able to push through with a lot of coffee but it's getting harder as I get older!

I nap at the weekends, like a baby Blush

I know I can only do this because I don't yet have a baby!

I eat crap, that's why I'm fat. Stupid at work this week so today is day 2 of finishing a presentation at 1.30am, sleeping at around 2, being disturbed by 2yp (briefly at around 4) then getting up for a 5 hour round trip to a meeting, arriving back in at 8 to then do bed for 3 kids.

That's after a full day of meetings, budgeting and presentations.

I do I via Diet Coke, tea and eating total crap. And by every now again totally crashing out and having a meltdown.

People can do it, but it's stupid and catches up in the long run!

Grim do you find eating crap helps you stay awake? I have to go and pack up a house soon...I'm in Oz...and I'm almost asleep! Perhaps I'll get a can of coke and a crap pie from the bakery.

I am awful if I haven't slept; I have to be very careful not to drive ever if I'm too tired. I love coffee but the temporary lift doesn't really make a difference, I'll still be clumsy and often speak a little strangely. My head gets very muddled. I'm far worse with sunstroke though, I'm absolutely out for the count in too much heat.

I don't cope on too much sleep. I average on about 4-5 hour a night.

Insomnia is a curse.

Now and again though I do crash and burn and sleep 14 hours, that happens around every 6 weeks.

The way I look at it if there was ever a zombie apocalypse then at least I can stay awake and defend my family lol.

Caffeine got me through along with sugar rushes from biscuits. I also moaned and generally bit everyone's head off. Basically you have to do what you need to do. It wasn't until my eldest was about 2.5y that o realised I was feeling so rubbish due to sleep deprivation, as I was too sleep deprived!

I am just getting out of the fog and getting good, regular sleep and I feel like a different person. If you need 7 hours, do what it takes to get it, even if it means going to bed as soon as DC do. You are going to be more productive and make less mistakes like forgetting to wash uniform etc if you get the sleep you need. When I was desperate and the boys were younger I used to pay for an extra day at the childminders and go home and sleep. It was worth skipping a meal out for and got me back on track.

It does get easier. Hang in there x

Like clementine and the rest of you, I can't function on not enough sleep. And heat/sun is useless for me too.

I get about 7 hours at night but nap everyday when I get home from work for about an hour.

When I'm tired I can't speak properly and am very muddled. I get tearful as well.

forgetmenot agreed, tearful when I'm tired too. Like I can't control a sudden short sharp sob. Embarrassing in Sainsburys. Confused

Caffeine and carbs. I've wrecked my body from it- but I've 'functioned' most of the time.

When the baby was a real baby I could drink an espresso and go to bed and straight to sleep AND sleep soundly. I may even include that on my CV, I think it's an achievement.

This year I'm going to do something about it. But I'll need coffee.

I get insomnia and I would be elated to get 5 hours a night. I average 2 or 3 and hate it. Really wrecks coping and mood.

In answer to a pp eating crap only helps very very briefly. The problem is when you're tired you crave sugar but only get a very short lift from it and need more. The answer is probably nuts and seeds or something but fuck that for a laugh when you're knackered!

I say it a lot but turmeric lemonade works better than four cans of red bull for me without any side effects. I have a cup every morning, and about an hour before dinner parties or going out, makes me feel absolutely superhuman! It was recommended to me and I am devoted to it now Grin. Tastes nasty but the effects are worth it, my skin and hair are loads nicer since drinking it everyday too.

Yes but long term it probably makes things worse!
