To not like the school taking the kids swimming this time of year?

Yes i know i am, but its like.. one of those ingrained things i learned on my mothers knee Grin

Don't go out with wet hair when its cold!

It's like there is a constant shouting match going on in my head between Sensible Cherry and Old Wives Tale loving Grandma!

Every time DD (7) mentions she's got swimming class tomorrow, its like Old Grandma suddenly sits up and goes "she shouldn't be out with wet hair in this cold, she'll get sick, they shouldn't be taking the little kids outside in this cold straight from a hot swimming pool when they never dry themselves properly and are still damp with wet hair!" and then Sensible Cherry tells her to sit down and shut up, but she carries on grumbling ominously in the background.

Anyone else have those kind of inner wars with themselves? Or am i just nuts? Grin shush

Hell yes. But that is what swimming caps are for.

Hth.

No - I really haven't the energy to worry about this - she'll be fine!

i know, DD won't wear one, she can't put it on herself and the teachers refuse to help basically!

Listen to sensible Cherry. Swimming in winter is fine. They have heated pools and heated schools and everything these days. Grin

I swim every morning before work and stroll out with my hair still wet .... viruses cause colds not wet hair.

hmm, dd swimming tomorrow, in bus to pool, 20 yards from bus to door, in bus home, dropped at school gate, straight into warm classroom with snack.

If you are worried make sure her coat has a hood and she has it up.

Woollen bobble hat for travelling from swimming to school. Once inside heating will sort.

I don't think it's good, the kids at our school have to walk back to school. It takes them half an hour.

Just keep reminding yourself that viruses cause colds and not weather, I do get what you mean though when DS came home today soaked through from rain I found myself saying 'you'll catch your death!' And a voice in my head went 'errr no he won't you numpty." Grin

Ours have a 25 minute walk there and again on the way back. Was very pleased when it finished at christmas, to be resumed in the summer term. DD is only y1 and some of the days they went first thing in the morning it was absolutely Baltic!

She'll be fine, really. As an aside, DS's school won't allow the children to swim without swimming caps. I assumed this was one of those generic and incomprehensible health and safety rules, but it looks like there are more sensible schools out there.

With an asthmatic child, in this weather, it can simply be determined by the weather alone.

Swimming hats just cause pain. Nobody dies from wet hair. I swim year round in the sea and it's actually very good for me, in all sorts of ways. Stop fretting

Children r more vulnerable than adults (excluding old and frail).

exactly Big

i do understand the reason why people catch colds when they're wet, something to do with lower body temperatures meaning less defences against virus taking hold, and i also have Asthma so i'm very careful about coughs/sneezes this time of year as they can be nasty if i catch them.

think i will just re-iterate to her about zipping up her coat and making sure she puts her hood up!

Swimming hats are to keep hair out of faces and for hygiene purposes! They do not keep hair dry!

We used to have to walk back to school after swimming. I have really thick hair and it would still be wet by the end of the day (swim caps were never worn by anyone in my class). I hated it. Used to be freezing all day with a damp back where my hair had trailed.
Would still any child of mine to school swimming in the winter though. I had to put up with it, so should they Grin

I'm dreading when it's my asthmatic son's turn to do swimming in winter, I know it's gonna be a nightmare!

We are starting baby DSs swimming lessons on Saturday, there'll probably be snow on the ground...it does feel a bit weird and wrong. I am Italian though Grin

They walk at ours too. They need to! It's that blody hit in the pool area they need to cool off.

I used to live in 'proper cold/snow', I have long hair & I always went out with wet hair! I used to love 'cracking' it 😁

They'll all be fine! Anyone with medical needs can get signed out.
