What will the government do with the Country of Birth and Nationality?! AIBU to not provide this info?!

lasagnefortea Wed 11-Jan-17 14:10:39

Is it a handwritten form? I'd put in a fictitious country and nationality, like all the people that put Jedi for their religion on the census

SoDownSoGone Wed 11-Jan-17 14:15:50

Yes handwritten ridiculous.

deplorabelle Wed 11-Jan-17 14:17:05

I just put "not supplied" as my entry

PotteringAlong Wed 11-Jan-17 14:17:27

Why don't you want them to know?

PhilODox Wed 11-Jan-17 14:17:36

You can just out "refused", no need to be arsey- it's not schools' fault they're asking.

gallicgirl Wed 11-Jan-17 14:18:54

Don't then, just write refused or n/a

NathanBarleyrocks Wed 11-Jan-17 14:19:01

Why not? I assume you won't mind getting into that school then?

monkeysox Wed 11-Jan-17 14:19:12

Why would it be secret? Don't understand why you wouldn't tell anyone?

WhirlwindHugs Wed 11-Jan-17 14:19:58

I thought the government changed their mind about this idea?

We decided we would refuse to give the info but school hasn't asked.

MontePulciana Wed 11-Jan-17 14:20:28

Also don't understand the secrecy. The form might be classed incomplete and returned?

NathanBarleyrocks Wed 11-Jan-17 14:21:04

To check whether they are eligible for free education here?

c3pu Wed 11-Jan-17 14:21:36

"choose not to declare" is an acceptable response.

ThroughThickAndThin01 Wed 11-Jan-17 14:21:52

I don't understand why you don't want to say.

SoupDragon Wed 11-Jan-17 14:21:57

I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with this.

SoDownSoGone Wed 11-Jan-17 14:24:34

But why does the government need to know? What difference does it make where a child was born or what their nationality is? Once the government has this information what do they expect to do with it?

NathanBarleyrocks Wed 11-Jan-17 14:25:53

To check whether they are eligible for free education here?

again

MontePulciana Wed 11-Jan-17 14:30:18

So they can understand cultural differences or be sensitive and just aware. For example if you've just come from war torn area or somewhere interesting the class could talk about.

Pestilence13610 Wed 11-Jan-17 14:30:53

To check whether they are eligible for free education here?

yet again

complete with clicky link so you can check for yourself

SoDownSoGone Wed 11-Jan-17 14:31:10

I refuse to supply this information. Next we'll all be wearing armbands.

BitchPeas Wed 11-Jan-17 14:31:29

Why would you not? Surely it's pretty obvious most of the time. Why does it offend you?

noblegiraffe Wed 11-Jan-17 14:32:27

The DfE said it was so that they could research educational outcomes for children of immigrants, but then it came out that it was in response to a Home Office request for schools to hand over immigrant data so that they could deprioritise school applications for children of illegal immigrants.

However it has now been agreed that this data won't be shared with the Home Office, because schools are not border guards.

Pestilence13610 Wed 11-Jan-17 14:33:17

Do you also refuse to give your nationality to any NHS services you choose to use?

Potnoodlewilld0 Wed 11-Jan-17 14:33:26

Why would it offend you?

SoDownSoGone Wed 11-Jan-17 14:33:26

It offends me because it's not relevant to my Childs education. I would want to know what the government intends to do with this data.
