Not being told about chicken pox?

Overheard a conversation at nursery pick up yesterday about chicken pox. apparently one child in DD's class has returned yesterday after having had it but her sibling is still poorly (twins) I was a bit surprised that the nursery didn't let the rest of us know that it was doing the rounds. AIBU to expect to be told?

It doesn't directly affect me at the moment, although I guess it would be handy to keep my eye out for symptoms. But there are a lot of other families with brand new babies/pregnant mums and Grand parents with Heath issues (chemo).

Should I say something?

Normally they would put a notice or something up, but are you actually going to keep your children off in case they meet a contagious child?

If there's a major outbreak they usually let you know. One child isn't really that.

There will be a lot of contagious illnesses circulating at nursery all the time I'm afraid.

Chicken pox is pretty much always doing the rounds. I'm not sure 2 children having it in a nursery constitutes some kind of massive outbreak or epidemic. I really wouldn't say anything.

I would expect them to put a notice up.

It is possible with this being the first full week after the holiday that the affected children were not in while incubating it and if yesterday was the first day that either was well enough to attend then it may be the first the nursery knew about it. The parents may not have felt the need to call in, or the children don't go in on Mondays as routine.

I imagine there's often one or two kids off with chicken pox so it's not quite doing the rounds yet on that basis. I guess it would be good of them to let you know so you can all be vigilant for spots appearing but it's not unusual that they haven't.

Is it a term time nursery? If they've been off over Christmas then it's likely that they came out in spot over the Christmas break so weren't actually at nursery when they began to be contagious (around two days before the spots appear) and then Twin A has scabbed over so is safe to return while Twin B will be off a little longer.

If they haven't been at nursery at any point during the contagious period then I wouldn't expect to be notified. My DC had it during a school holiday and I didn't even tell school because they hadn't been there while they were contagious.
