Or peel it first?

MollyHuaCha Mon 09-Jan-17 14:44:41

Either!

PurpleMcPants Mon 09-Jan-17 14:45:07

Eat it of course, don't know why you wouldn't?

OohhItsNotHoxton Mon 09-Jan-17 14:45:20

Eat it.

WaitrosePigeon Mon 09-Jan-17 14:45:25

Eat it, why wouldn't you?

EvansOvalPies Mon 09-Jan-17 14:46:01

Eat it, unless it's to be used in a dessert, like poached pears in syrup, or something.

All the goodness is in the skin, like apple skin. You can eat kiwi skin too, although most people peel them.

I have just always peeled pears, never considered eating a pear like an apple.

QueenMortificado Mon 09-Jan-17 14:47:14

I'm a bit allergic to pear skin, it might just be the pesticides and me not washing it properly but if I eat it my mouth goes really tingly and my lips swell up

I eat it anyway, unless this happens to you too can't see why you wouldn't

DailyFail1 Mon 09-Jan-17 14:48:47

I eat it. Would never peel it unless for a very young child

Evergreen17 Mon 09-Jan-17 14:49:25

All the fibre that the skin has! Wash and eat. Ahhhh nothing beats a good pearsmile

OohhItsNotHoxton Mon 09-Jan-17 14:49:37

@EvensOvalPies kiwi skin is edible? Really?

Evergreen17 Mon 09-Jan-17 14:49:50

No pears at home 😞

coffeetasteslikeshit Mon 09-Jan-17 14:50:21

Eat it. Never heard of peeling it first... skin's the best bit!

MitzyLeFrouf Mon 09-Jan-17 14:50:21

Eat it of course! The skin is always where all the good stuff is in most fruits.

MitzyLeFrouf Mon 09-Jan-17 14:51:21

I love that feeling of your teeth breaking through the slightly coarse pear skin into the soft fruit beneath.

Katedotness1963 Mon 09-Jan-17 14:54:35

What kind of pears are you eating? I haven't bought any for years because they all seemed horribly dry, or had a crumbly texture.

LivingOnTheDancefloor Mon 09-Jan-17 14:56:33

I eat the skin, so does my toddler DCs

albertcampionscat Mon 09-Jan-17 14:57:27

Eat it

Ilovecaindingle Mon 09-Jan-17 14:58:44

Wouldn't think to peel a pearl or leave the skin of a kiwi!

MitzyLeFrouf Mon 09-Jan-17 15:00:25

I wouldn't eat the skin of a kiwi fruit though. It would be like eating a dessicated hedeghog.

Camomila Mon 09-Jan-17 15:00:58

Eat it myself, peel it for baby DS.

Bluntness100 Mon 09-Jan-17 15:01:56

I eat lead skin like an apple, wouldn't eat kiwi skin though, 😱

Soubriquet Mon 09-Jan-17 15:03:44

Strange...I don't eat pears but my dc do

Why are people peeling for children?

My one and three year old eats apple and pears with the skin on .

AnUtterIdiot Mon 09-Jan-17 15:05:05

Blimey, yes. I eat everything but the stalk. All the flavour's in the skin for things like apples and pears. (And quinces. And plums. And potatoes.)

I wouldn't eat an apple core, although my DH does (urgh).

EvansOvalPies Mon 09-Jan-17 15:05:14

Yes, kiwi skin is edible (I usually just add it to smoothies, though, in fairness, because of it's tickliness). Same with pomegranate - skin and pith all edible, but I put do put that in the blender and add a bit of honey and extra fruit juice, as it can be a little bitter.
