To not pay the fine?

Asking for a friend (honestly! Not me)
She was parked in a car park and dropped a cig end out her window. Was approached by a guy from the council and issued a fixed penalty notice for littering - £75 I think.
She is considering not paying & running the risk of prosecution/going to court. I'm not sure if this is wise but then I'm very much a rule-follower and err on side of caution.
What do people think, is she likely to get away with ignoring the fine? She thinks will be fine & they won't bother to chase.

She littered.
She was fined.
She should pay.
Would you want your dog /child to pick that up?

RacoonBandit Thu 05-Jan-17 13:02:27

They will chase her.

She dropped the ciggerette she needs to pay the fine.

BintyMcGinty Thu 05-Jan-17 13:03:47

She should pay. I hate litterbugs angryangryangry

She will have to pay, she's been fined by the council. If she goes to court it may also appear in her local paper (I knew someone this happened to - it was very embarrassing for her as she's a manager in the public sector. Her bosses took a very dim view of it)

Wheels are in motion. If it's not paid by the date on the notice it will go to court automatically and if she was seen doing it she's screwed stupid cow and will get a much higher fine than on the ticket plus a criminal conviction. God forbid she should have stubbed out her cigarette and kept it in a portable ashtray.

NerrSnerr Thu 05-Jan-17 13:06:03

Why shouldn't she pay it? She must realise she was in the wrong or is she that arrogant?

FooFighter99 Thu 05-Jan-17 13:06:14

She could end up with a CCJ if she doesn't pay and they take her to court.

rumbelina Thu 05-Jan-17 13:25:02

Someone near us refused to pay a fine and ended up with costs of £1000. There is no way out - she needs to pay up and stop littering!!

TwitterQueen1 Thu 05-Jan-17 13:27:44

Of course she should pay! Why on earth does she think she shouldn't? It's not even as if there is any ambiguity around what happened. The council will chase - without question.

FrankAndBeans Thu 05-Jan-17 13:29:57

Disgusting angry I hope she gets taken to court, fined more and named and shamed if she refuses to pay.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

If you can't take the punishment, don't do the crime.

SIBU, just cough up and get it over and done with.

BarbarianMum Thu 05-Jan-17 13:31:54

Tell her not to pay. Then she'll be taken to court, get a bigger fine and learn the hard way. Is she always this arrogant?

expatinscotland Thu 05-Jan-17 13:31:59

It won't be fine. They'll come after her and will not stop. A private car park, different matter, but a fixed penalty note from the council? They will pursue and pursue.

PigletWasPoohsFriend Thu 05-Jan-17 13:33:13

She should pay. They do take people to court.

If she didn't want the fine she shouldn't have littered!

FatalKittehCharms Thu 05-Jan-17 13:34:24

If she doesn't pay, I hope they fine her even more and make her do community service. Preferably scraping chewing gum off the floor.

IWantATardis Thu 05-Jan-17 13:34:38

Bit risky not paying - the officer could well have noted her number plate down, so presumably it'll be pretty easy for them to track her down and prosecute if they've a mind to.

Are the potential consequences of not paying - court, extra costs, being named and shamed etc - really worth not paying a fine she's incurred by doing something wrong?

AgentProvocateur Thu 05-Jan-17 13:36:25

Why would she even consider not paying? Does she think she is above the law? hmm

HecateAntaia Thu 05-Jan-17 13:37:49

Maybe she should just accept she did the wrong thing and there's a price to pay.

If she doesnt want fines - take her litter home. Dirty bugger.

I think they make a point of chasing as it acts as a deterrent to others.

MiddleClassProblem Thu 05-Jan-17 13:39:44

Pay it and stop being a twat

Sallygoroundthemoon Thu 05-Jan-17 13:40:01

Ghastly woman dropping fag ends out of the car. Of course she should pay and hopefully it will stop her doing it again.

NicknameUsed Thu 05-Jan-17 13:42:17

What everyone else said. Also if she incurs a CCJ it could affect her credit rating. Such a high price for being a litter lout (with a disgusting habit).

Rattusn Thu 05-Jan-17 13:42:23

It's disgusting behaviour, I'm glad a fine was issued.

middlings Thu 05-Jan-17 13:42:57

She needs to pay it. There are signs up all over the City of London reminding people that it costs over £3m a year to clean up cigarette butts in the Square Mile. That and chewing gum are revolting and a colossal waste of money!

Mulberry72 Thu 05-Jan-17 13:44:30

Of course she should pay! Littering is disgusting.
