I know iabu so it's just a rant really.
It's great that people decide to get fit but I'm struggling to get into classes that I've been going to for over a year and its mobbed sane as last January.
I know it will all die down again by February. The gym booking system crashed today because there was so many people trying to access it!
Good luck to anyone starting a new e revise plan, I hope you manage to stick to it halo

On the upside they flood money into the gym allowing it to operate at a less busy level the rest of the year.

Hannah4banana Tue 03-Jan-17 20:17:41

True, it's always busy anyway but it's mental this week! Think of all the wasted gym memberships that people take out and dont use, they must be making a fortune.

SaintEyning Tue 03-Jan-17 20:18:42

I'm terribly sorry to have received a pay rise at the end of last year which enables me to now be able to pay for a gym membership. If only I had known I was supposed to join in March. I do triathlons, by the way, so I won't be taking up spaces in your bodybalance or Zumba classes. biscuit

It hasn't hit my gym yet, today is still a public holiday in Scotland, but I know exactly what you mean!

Violetcharlotte Tue 03-Jan-17 20:21:38

I have to say I hate all the cliquey regulars that are condescending and welcoming to 'newbies'. One of the reasons I hate going to the gym.

JustHereForThePooStories Tue 03-Jan-17 20:22:04

Meh, we didn't complain in December when all you lot took over our pubs.

Leanin15yearsmaybe Tue 03-Jan-17 20:22:28

My DC's have wanted to rejoin our old gym for the past year. I've just had a leap in pay so will be joining this month. Doesn't matter to me if it's Jan or September. I can now afford it

JenniferYellowHat1980 Tue 03-Jan-17 20:22:42

YABU. I'm one of them. I've had my gym membership for a few months but new year is giving me the impetus to use it. It's no more your gym than it is mine.

Hannah4banana Tue 03-Jan-17 20:23:24

Yuck hate body balance and zumba, I've got no rhythm grin spinning must be the most popular by far! A waiting list of 30 today! Never seen anything like it and when I went there was 5 bikes free as people didn't turn up angry

KatharinaRosalie Tue 03-Jan-17 20:23:25

Be annoyed at gyms accepting more customers they can actually accommodate.

dementedma Tue 03-Jan-17 20:24:46

grinat just
I don't do gyms. Just go outside if it's for running and walking. It's free.

Hannah4banana Tue 03-Jan-17 20:25:24

I know iabu, I do think there must be loads wasted in memberships though. I don't speak to anyone at the gym, I go to work out so I'm not a fan of the cliques either.

SleepingBooty Tue 03-Jan-17 20:28:11

I'd like to join but I'm waiting until February, cba with a busy January gym.

RJnomore1 Tue 03-Jan-17 20:29:40

It bothers me when I can't get to use equipment because there's a mass of people who won't stick with it using it wrongly.

Likewise people who get on the treadmill to walk.

SaintEyning Tue 03-Jan-17 20:33:38

Why spin when you can cycle up a real hill?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer Tue 03-Jan-17 20:35:57

I remember being approached by an older gentle man who very kindly told me that if i had any questions to just as him as i was new

I wouldnt mind but i had been going 3 times a week for two years by then!!!

Hannah4banana Tue 03-Jan-17 20:36:00

I use spinning as extra training for my cycling and its really helped me improve. I've just ordered my own spin bike tonight. Problem solved grin

ClaudiaNaughton Tue 03-Jan-17 20:37:31

Members at our gym who have booked but don't turn up have a £4.00 fine or all bookings blocked. Works a treat.

LockedOutOfMN Tue 03-Jan-17 20:39:59

Agree with you, OP. But I just dream of February when it's back to nice, quiet gym.

I don't do many classes and the newbies aren't usually into free weights (my thing) so if I pick my times carefully it's not too awful. All the cardio machines have queues this week, though.

LockedOutOfMN Tue 03-Jan-17 20:40:52

SleepingBooty I think it's usually cheaper in Feb. as well.

MistressMolecules Tue 03-Jan-17 20:41:06

I am going to be one of those January gym goers, but not until March grin. Really need to sort myself out but can't bear (bare? confused ) the thought of joining when it is so busy and our local one has just had a major refurb (which looks pretty amazing but daunting all at the same time) so expecting it to be even busier.

Hannah4banana Tue 03-Jan-17 20:41:08

I think they will be bringing something similar in at mine. Always oversubscribed then spaces when you go. They are trying to get e eryone to check in at the desk now before the classes and sending letters to no-shows.

Hannah4banana Tue 03-Jan-17 20:42:36

Good for you mistressmolecules, don't be daunted by anything, I always just ask and the staff are really good at demonstrating and helping with any goals. I got a fitbit for Xmas so I've been trying it out too grin
