AIBU?

AIBU to take the Christmas decorations down early? (Light-hearted)

I have someone coming to replace a ceiling on Thursday (12 day of Christmas). AIBU to take the Christmas decorations down beforehand so that they don't get lost/dusty? Is it bad luck to bring them down early, like it is late?

Oh god take them down, there's no such thing as bad luck.

Most everyone I know took theirs down yesterday, or Sunday.

Mine have been down since the 28th. Nothing dreadful has happened.

Not sure if it's bad luck (not superstitious personally) but mine come down on New Year's Day each year.

I never take mine down until January 6th, but I'm superstitious like that (they go up 1st weekend of December and come down January 6th). I never want to take them down even then, it looks so plain again

Mine came down yesterday. There's only a few houses still dec'd on our road. The dc's went back to school today so it seemed the appropriate time to do it.

I keep mine up until 6th January but only because I like keeping them up until then.

I have taken mine down. A relief to get straight before work and school restart

I'm sure the person replacing the ceiling would appreciate not having to work around the decorations!

I always take mine down around the 01st January, depending on amount of guests staying over, but always before the kids go back to school. It would feel too weird to start a new year at school with old decorations still up.

I don't think we''ve ever been struck by bad luck because of it.

Yes take them down. It's only bad luck, according to the superstition, to leave them up after the 12th night.

If you're having a ceiling pulled down, everything will be covered in two inches of dust.
I put Christmas away today and I think it looks lovely, all clean and tidy now. Smile Everyone's back to school and work so it doesn't feel like Christmas here anyway.

Conversely, bad luck has never befallen me specifically because my decorations are still up in February!

Take them down to make ceiling-bloke's job easier ..... that's it!

I reluctantly took mine down yesterday.
Then low and behold the oven blew a fuse and stopped working half way through cooking a roast!
Wooooo!!!!!

I took mine down 27th

Normally take them down later but I was fed up of constantly chasing the cat away from it

Ours were packed up yesterday, house looks really bare today. I thought it was bad luck to leave them up after 12th night, not take them down before?

According to certain sections of mn if you take them down before the 6th you've fallen victim to rampant consumerism and forgotten the true meaning of Christmas. Grin

I'm not sure there's any luck involved though.

I had always thought that you were only meant to put decorations up on Christmas Eve and then take them down on 6th January (or before).

Presumably, you put your tree up before Christmas Eve and nothing dreadful happened? Feel free to take your decorations down whenever you want.

I normally leave our decs up until 12 th night but last night looked at our rapidly moulting tree and agreed with the family it would come down today. DH & DS1 both back at work & DS2 revising for mock exams so I feel a bit at a loose end. Quick chat with DS2 over lunch when I broached the idea of carrying on and packing up everything. His response was to go ahead and that on Friday we'll have a day out together.
In some ways I feel nostalgic for Christmases where the boys wanted it to go on for ever but I'm also appreciative of how things are evolving. We've had a lovely Christmas this year which is probably why I'm happy to let it end.
Pack away, OP, I'm sure your decorator will thank you!

I took mine down today because I'm going back to work tomorrow and DH and FIL are going to lay some flooring in the front room (so everything has to come out of there anyway).

I generally take them down just before I go back to work anyway though because I can't be bothered doing it once I'm back.
