AIBU?

To buy stuff on a 70% chance our baby is a girl!?

Had scan this morning (12+5). Sonographer asked if we'd like to know gender of the baby and that it looked as though baby was a girl. She seemed preeeeety certain. I've attached a couple of the photos but I don't understand the nub theory or what bit your supposed to look at so they mean nothing to me in that respect!

Saw midwife straight after and she seemed surprised sonographer would have said anything at all at such an early scan & that it was only a 70% chance she completely pissed on my chips.

Everything in my being wants to be sensible and wait to buy anything but it wouldn't be unreasonable to buy one pretty sleepsuit would it...?! Blush

Personally I wouldn't (but then I bought virtually nothing until after 30 weeks and kept the tags on and all the receipts cos I was a bit bonkers).

Most newborn stuff is unisex anyway so it doesn't matter.

I wouldn't be buying anything at 12 weeks. Why not wait til 20 week scan?

Wait a few more weeks until the 20 week and you wil get a more accurate result

Still won't be 100% but better than this

You go and buy a sleepsuit now for a girl and find out it's a boy, would you be ok with that?

If you really want to, buy something - you can always sell it or donate it.

That said, I was meant to be a boy. Hmm

Just buy unisex stuff! That's what we did (and are still doing) even though we know it's a boy. Hate all the gendered crap for babies. Plus there's a much higher risk of thinking it's a girl when it's actually a boy, as opposed to the other way around (if the sonographer can see a penis, it's a pretty sure thing, whereas if they can't see one it might just not be visible).

I wouldn't buy at 12 weeks until screening had come back. Especially not gender specific clothing. I lost a baby in the second trimester though.
Just wait, or book in an early gender scan to confirm at 16 weeks.

At my 12.5 week scan I was told it 'maybe looked like a girl' but now I have a 21 month old hyper little boy :)

Why can't boys have pretty sleep suits....really??

Was this an NHS scan?

Seems very early for them to tell you the gender? Even if they could tell at this gestation [my friend was told most likely a boy at a private scan at 14w so its not impossible but seems very negligent IMO]

I went shopping crazy after a 16 week gender scan... but even I wouldn't do it after 12 weeks. You could easily be having a boy. I've got several friends who were told the wrong sex even at later stages....

12 weeks is too early to get your heart set on one (50/50!) sex.

Surely wait to the 20 week scan? Bit odd to get a guestimate gender at 13 weeks.

If you want bargains it will almost be the summer sales by the time it was born.

They can tell at 12 weeks, our sonographer asked if we wanted her to guess and she said she thought it was a boy - she was right. It was an NHS scan and I think officially they're not allowed to say but I'm glad ours did. We knew it wasn't certain until it was confirmed at 20 weeks, but we also figured she wouldn't have said anything if she hadn't been pretty sure.

We certainly didn't go out and buy loads of blue things though! Just bought a couple of colourful gender neutral outfits to celebrate. Didn't buy anything else until after the 20 week scan (and even then it's still gender neutral stuff).

Yes that's true about it being Summer when the baby is born.

Sorry to hear that Frank

Yes, was an NHS scan - next one isn't until end of February when I'll be almost 21 weeks.

I'm going to settle for choosing some wallpaper on Pinterest...

I would wait until 20 or book a 14/15 week gender scan. 12,5 weeks is so early!

I wouldn't buy anything yet as it is mostly all winter stuff in the shops and you will want summer things.

Ah, it's so exciting!

I know a fair few people who were told the wrong sex at first, so I wouldn't buy anything except neutral clothes until he/she is here. 12 weeks is still so tiny. But you can get some really beautiful newborn things in white or similar if you want to shop now.

Congratulations!

I found out boy at 13 weeks and with this one at 14 weeks girl.

I probably wouldn't start buying until the 20 week scan to be sure. Even the best sonographers can et it wrong so early.

2 separate scans at 20 weeks said girl. After 5 brothers dd was chuffed.
Not so when bro 6 arrived instead.

My sonographer told said DD was a girl at our 12 week scan and started backtracking when we asked him if he could see.

Personally, I'd wait a bit longer before spending too much money.

I wouldn't buy anything based on a guess at 12 weeks. I would wait till the 20 week scan.
