AIBU?

..to let the bed "air"

Help settle an argument between my DH & I...

We strip the beds every Saturday (I know some MN'erst will think this is disgusting, but this is not the AIBU!).

I like to strip the beds and leave the bed to "Air" for the day. DH thinks this is a ridiculous notion and likes to get the bed stripped and re-made at the same time.

He gets irrationally annoyed when we come up to bed & rather than collapsing straight in, we have to make it. Whereas I love making it after the 'air-ing' and then collapsing into soft, beautifully smelling bed.

So, who is being unreasonable?

I leave windows open to air. Then remake in the evening. Hope that helps!

I mostly agree with you, I like it to air but always try to make it again about an hour before we go to bed otherwise I end up annoyed that I haven't done it earlier!

I remake it straight away as I can't be bothered to do it later, and can imagine going to bed and realising it's not done and be annoyed. I can see your reasoning too though so you are both right. HTH Smile

Yanbu I love to air my bed I open the windows as well but it's bloody annoying going to bed and the beds not made so he isn't unreasonable either 1 of you needs to do it before bedtime

I can't say, but it's similar to my habit. I take off the bedding, spray the bed and pillows with zoflora, leave the duvets draped over doors to air, leave pillows propped so they get air, open the windows, and then sometime later make up the new bed. Heaven.

Letting your bed completely cool down and dry out makes bed bugs far less likely. I pull my duvet back every day and it feels like getting into a clean bed at night.

Mine is aired from the minute I get out of it till the minute I get back into it. Grin

You should let it air- it kills the dust mites. They die a horrible death suffocating in the sunlight.

If he wants the bed stripped and immediately remade then he should get on with it. Problem solved Xmas Smile

Na, can't stand naked duvet and pillows.

It's nice to air it! However I always forget and go up to bed ready to just collapse in it only to realise that I've failed myself massively!

MrsJayy · 02/01/2017 21:25

Oh why do you spray zoflora ?

I like to air mine too, but I hate doing the sheets at bedtime. I put them back on when I put the kids to bed - a compromise maybe.

Well if he is that bothered he could go up teatime and make it couldn't he?

Report
MelanieCheeks · 02/01/2017 21:27

Couldn't you both make it at teatime?

Yes and no. I like to air my bed but I make sure the new covers etc are on it well before I go to bed. Hate it when I forget and go up to bed and then have to make it.

I Hoover mine and let it air with the windows open for at least halfway an hour.

I couldn't be doing with making the bed just before bedtime, it would wake me up, too much.

I agree with you op. I air mine for the whole day with the windows open.

The air it but always remake well before I want to go to bed. I would get totally pissed off if I had to make the bed at bedtime!

It's definitely better to air the mattress.

I try to remember to make it after dinner though, so I don't go to bed, to find an unmade bed, that really finishes me off!

What's disgusting about changing sheets weekly? Confused

Another adulting fail from me, have never 'aired' a bed in my life - didn't really know if it was a thing. However have not suffered any ill effects as far as I know & still love a new fresh linen bed, which smells gorgeous despite the lack of airing!

Actually going to bed and discovering the bed isn't made is actually soul destroying

Beds are stripped on Saturday mornings before swimming lessons. Beds "air" while we are out then I open the windows for a while when we get in. I put the spare sets on before DC go to bed so well before DH and I go to bed.
