AIBU?

I've just watched my mum wipe the bin lid then her work surfaces with the same cloth.

I mean come on.

Even me, the queen of slack and low standards thinks that's just too gross.

Her argument is that she cleans the bin lid everyday. (She doesn't)

AIBU to want buy her colour coordinated cloths for the kitchen 😂

Meh wouldn't bother me. I take it the cloth is rinsed and used in conjunction with some sort of cleaning spray? I take it no one has died yet?

I regularly clean the cloth and use antiseptic spray but I would cheerfully use the same cloth for these two jobs. Gross, eh?

Bin lid? Not the inside of the bin? Don't see a huge problem with that, especially if she's using hot soapy water and anti-bac spray of some kind.

No! Straight from bin lid to work surface!

Kitchen roll. My mum looks after my kids in my house and would do the same. I've banned cloths.

People clean their bin lids??

YoScienceBitch · 01/01/2017 16:59

king that's probably why I think it's so gross as mine only gets done when I can't physically touch it anymore Grin

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface: I do. I grew up in a house with a filthy bin lid so it's one of those things I notice.

If it's a kitchen bin, surely only food waste is going in there? Unless she's using it for cats' litter or something, I can't see why it's a problem.

My DH does that, yuk.

Doesn't bother me. People are weird about 'germs' it's the stuff from the work surfaces that goes into the bin.

As long as you clean/get a new cloth regularly I don't see the problem.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 01/01/2017 17:05

Was it inside or outside of the lid?

Oh the HORROR! Disown her before you all die from her disgusting behaviour. Why I mean WHY would she put you all at risk like that. She is SO selfish, narrow minded and DIRTY. You are definitely better off without her in your life. Cut all ties immediately. Don't breath a word of it to anyone else or you'll be treated like a leber for coming from the same dirty family.

All sorts goes in the bin. Nappies, stuff from the upstairs bins, cat food... I don't get why she can't just wipe the surfaces first and do the bin last!

That would gross me out. I saw my dad use the dishcloth (the one used for wiping the worksurfaces) to dry a frying pan the other day and that gave me the willies. Urgh.

I'm generally a laid back (ish) sort of person but hygiene I'm a bit funny with. I hate any kind of transfer of germs. It's like I can see a line of the germs and i know they're there, so when someone doesn't wash their hands after touching something gross I can "see" it on everything else. Confused

So?
Not seeing the problem.
When scraping some food or putting a wrapper in the bin, a bit of food has got on the lid, so she wiped it, just the same as when a bit spills on the surface.
I struggle to see why this is an issue for anyone without some kind of mental health issue about germs Confused

Ew...I don't have particularly high standards but that's pretty gross.

We use sponges in the kitchen, and the sponge for general dishes/work surface wiping generally gets changed once a week ish...I tend to give the outside of the bin (all over, including the lid) a good wipe with flash, just before the sponge goes in the bin. I wouldn't be able to use it on our work tops after it's being rubbed all over the bin!

And to be honest, people who are being mega sarcastic and taking the piss out of OP because she thinks wiping bins and work surfaces is gross, they need to get a grip quite frankly. Germs ARE a thing...it's not like magic or elves or pixies - germs actually exist. And can make people ill.

What is it that makes your bin more dirty than your work tops? I'm genuinely curious, rather than disputing that it is.

I'm not a germaphobe in the slightest. It's just in the same sort of gross as wiping the toilet then the sink sort of thing for me.
