AIBU?

To think the latest malteasers ad is a bit much?

So the latest ad depicts a disabled wheelchair user describing how her condition, whatever it is, led her to inadvertently wank off her date.

What happened to the chocolate ads of yore. Perhaps the milk tray hero should have been a bit more forward.

The purpose of advertising is to grab your attention. In your case this one has worked as you have noticed it.

I like it, its funny and shows disabled people in a real life way.

really? I never take much notice of ads. How can that be right. Adverts have sunk to a new low if that is the case.

Disability aside I don't need to see adverts that resort to this low level in order to sell their products. And in fact crappy irritating adverts often put me off buying the product.

Will you be complaining about the one where the deaf girl's hearing aid was eaten by the dog next?

It's not a new advert. And i have never seen it aired pre watershed.

It's been around for ages and 'her condition' is cerebral palsy.

I hate it. Can't see the correlation between wanking and malteasers.

It's been around for ages, it was aired after the Paralympics to raise disability awareness.

I hadn't seen it but it's here if anyone wants to look http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/maltesers-ad-storme-toolis-paralympicsukk_57d13e2be4b0ced6a09858e5. I think it's great, helps show that disabled people are normal people who have normal lives.

Normal lives? Malteaser related accidental wanking? Confused

Not a new advert at all.

It was brought out at the same time as the paraolympics on September.

It makes me cringe. It is overly scripted and contrived.

This was discussed to death when it was a new ad. I don't see a problem with it.

I love it, I have Cerebral Palsy and the first time I saw it I howled with laughter.

I don't like it, I think it's patronising to everyone. Agree with pp who said it was over scripted.

wevegottobeathemdown · 01/01/2017 09:49

So the idea is if you are disabled you have to be wacky and extreme to show how 'normal' you are? It's a contradiction at best and insulting.

There is much more serious stuff to be bothered about, my friend with cerebral palsy can't seem to be bothered about and neither can I. If disabled people are offended then that's one thing and they can complain to the ASA and have the matter considered.

Frusso I'm not sure why it has to be one of your two options.
