Similar here, I had my first baby in July and put on over 3 stone with the pregnancy. I also suffered from PND and had a lot of anxiety leaving the house which didn't help with exercise or eating healthily!

I found that antidepressants gave me the boost I needed to make more lifestyle changes.

Try getting a fitbit, this is a good motivator and helps you make healthy choices, like walking instead of getting the bus so you can get more steps.

Try using the app "myfitnesspal" to track calories. I find this app invaluable and keeps me in check.

Try workout dvds so you can fit in a quick 30 min exercise while baby is asleep/entertained. I like Davina Mccalls workout dvds. And post-pregnancy I'd recommend strengthening your core first as it really takes a pounding those 9 months! Search youtube for post pregnancy core workouts and do those once a day for a week or so before moving on to harder things.

Finally I'd recommend trying "raspberry ketone" supplements. I got some from amazon. I find they really help making me feel more energised and stops the hunger pangs (I gave up snacking easily after taking these).

Oh, and try and fill your week up with activities. Even if it's just a walk. Its so easy to eat out of boredom when you're cooped up at home.

Don't give up, it's very slow going after you've turned 30 but you can do it!

I hope that helps x

I've read people have dies from the raspberry ketone so I'd star clear of those. You could lose a fair bit just by upping your water and refusing to buy in crisps n sweets. There's no point trying to lose weight till youre ready to want to though. Good luck.

blink really? Could you link me to where you have read that about raspberry ketones? They sell them at Holland and Barrett Shock

Sorry op to read your posts, this must be a hard time for you. I'm just writing a short post to recommend myfitnesspal. It totally changed my life in terms of helping me to get a handle on how much I was putting into my body relative to what I was using up. I used it for a year and lost three stone. I haven't used it for a couple of years now but it has had a lasting effect on how I think about food and exercise. Why not give it a go for the new year. Good luck and a big hug.

I recommend myfitnesspal. I have to use it permanently to maintain (with weight loss done as required) as weight creeps up otherwise. I think perm solutions are best when you're naturally prone to fat.

I second my fitness pal. Lost 3 stone because of it.

Simply calories in and calories out. 3500 calories burnt is 1lb roughly. I used to cut 250 calories in food and do enough steps to burn 250.

Don't deny yourself junk as you just crave it more. Looking at food as calories does work though. Habit of recording every day. And getting a step counter.

Don't starve yourself. It doesn't work. Honestly, nothing else worked for me, but this did. You'll lose 1lb a week safely and feel great!

Wishing you lots of luck x

Your head isn't in it. You need to be mentally ready. I was like this, couldn't be bothered then something clicked and I was determined. Blood, sweat, tears and I lost 8 stone. Put it all sodding back on after an illness which kept me immobile for a long time and I'm waiting for the 'click'! You can do it if I did, I was the laziest, greediest cow ever, love my food, but it's doable.

Believe in yourself. Put your thinnest photo on the fridge, eye up a scorching dress that will be outstanding on you at target weight. Go, girl, it can be done. Find an exercise you like (badminton for me) and go with someone who's a bit better than you for motivation.

I am on the diet train! Im a size 14-16 and the biggest I've been!I'm going to do the 5:2 diet although I'm going to do 4:3 to get things moving! I'm also planning on keeping a food diary I think having to write down 15 choc bars will make me not eat them! Has anyone bought a fitness dvd the can recommend? Good luck op! Maybe we could turn this thread into an support thread?

I was over 17 stone and fucking depressed. Ditch the processed shit! Refined carbs and sugar made my blood sugar rocket then plummet. So I would eat more refined carbs or sugar. Up the protein and lots of veg. Drink water and exercise for endorphins! It's not about going on a diet. It's about changing your lifestyle. Diet and exercise.
I'll never be skinny but I can be a lot happier and healthier than I was!

Come and join us on the NoS thread. Its the sanest and most simple diet I have ever followed and I am finally sorting out my issues around food. No snacks, seconds or sweets except for days beginning with S ie weekends and special days like birthdays. Slow weight loss but so much to gain in terms of sanity! There's a pretty conclusive website which tells you most of what you need to do, and a very supportive forum too. Good luck!

Definitely going to check our my fitness pal.
Is it better than the food log on fitbit?

What Cherry says.... you need that click in your head. A couple of years ago i managed to lose 2 stone with the low carb mumsnet crew on here. Lost the vibe and its all piled on again :-(

Maybe focus on getting fitter and forget about what you're eating for now? Get a Fitbit and start trying to hit the steps goal every day. Hopefully that'll give you more of a lift with the extra energy you have

If you don't enjoy the gym don't go and don't beat yourself up for not going . Find something you do enjoy and do that. I started out just walking, then couch to 5k, swimming, dvds , a good variety to keep me interested

My doctor recommended low carb because I'm pre diabetic. I lost 15 lbs in two weeks, but then fell off because of the holidays. I did find that not eating carbs made me crave them less. I also use my fitness pal. It's free, but I paid for the annual membership ago I can track my glucose on that app.

chelazla as I mentioned in my post up thread I find the Davina DVDS good. I like the "super body workout" and "ultimate target" ones best, although I don't have all her dvds. The "ultimate target" one has a nice mini workout to tackle bingo wings (and it works! I used it in the run up to my wedding). I've heard a lot of good things about the "30 day shred", i cant remember who that is by, but I haven't done that one myself.

chickenvindaloo I find myfitnesspal better than the food logger on fitbit. But the 2 apps talk to each other, so fitbit will know your steps and what workouts your fitbit has logged and will adjust your goals accordingly. Also if you update your weight or log a workout in myfitnesspal or it will synch with fitbit. They work together very well :) I don't think it synchs food logs, but I prefer MFP for that anyway.

OP, have you been to the doctor about feeling depressed? Antidepressants may really help. Big hugs x

It does sound like you need to start with your head. Maybe antidepressants, maybe counselling would help. But whatever form of exercise you can make yourself feel like doing will make you stronger in mind and body.

Oh, and I found that eggs are my friend. I make "egg muffins" in the weekends. A dozen eggs makes 12 muffins, I add broccoli, cheese, bacon, and some red pepper flakes. Bake in the oven, and a serving is three. If I make two dozen it lasts me a week. You can mix up the veggies and cheese, of course.

This is the beginner's version of the 30 Day Shred. If you can get into it (and it's not for everyone) it will really help you both physically and mentally.

Oh, and I treated myself to a fitbit watch that tracks steps, sleep, heartrate, etc., which has helped a little with my general laziness. :)

Chops - thanks!
Guys you have inspired me to recharge my fitbit!
Eggs are indeed our friend. So are vegetables.
