AIBU?

AIBU to be flabbergasted that DP had never heard of rickrolling?

I find it hard to believe that anyone who has spent any time on the internet in the past ten years has not come across the phenomenon - but I discovered last night that DP had no idea. He's in his 40s, a daily internet user (twitter etc) but has apparently never been rick-rolled.

Surely he must be the only one?

I'm 40 and use the internet a lot and have no idea what you're talking about.

Ha! DS thought the song was actually called 'Rick Rolling'. It took me a while to convince him otherwise.

For those who can't be bothered googling:

"Rickrolling, alternatively rick-rolling, is a prank and an Internet meme involving an unexpected appearance of the music video for the 1987 Rick Astley song "Never Gonna Give You Up". The meme is a type of bait and switch using a disguised hyperlink."

It was a craze many years ago. Maybe he's forgotten?

I'd heard something of the prank but didn't know it was called rickrolling.

I've no idea what it is, it's never happened to me and I'm not even sure I understand the explanation Confused. Is this perhaps a thing in your world only?

This is the first I've heard of rick-rolling. I'm 40 and a daily internet user.

Nope, never heard of it either.

If the video popped up, I wouldn't click on it so I'm not quite sure I understand why it happens, what its purpose is - very confusing.
