AIBU?

to be struggling to find enthusiasm for NYE?

We don't have any plans yet, and imagine at most it'll be dinner at home, but having spent the last few days mostly preparing food for family and doing the Christmas thing, I'm feeling a bit partied-out. OH wants to have 'a nice meal'.

Do I need a 'stop being miserable' kick in the arse?

No you don't. I think NYE is massively over rated. Most people I know would rather stay in. A lot of people seem to feel they should go out.

Have a nice meal relax and do what you want to do not what you think you should be doing

Tell him that's a lovely idea and what is he making Grin

I'm not interested in NY this year, the mister doesn't finish work until around 10pm and then will probably fall asleep in his tea. So It's just me and the 9 yr old and then Xbox when he's gone to bed. I'll join you in the no enthusiasm thing.

If you've done the bulk of cooking then can't you get DH to cook? Alternatively both have the night off and order a takeaway

Its just another day to me also. I don't make NYR's. I know my life isn't going to miraculously change from 31 dec-1 January.

Surely it's your OH turn to cook if you've been doing it all the rest of the holidays? Put your feet up and let him cook for you - that's a nice NYE!

I don't get why anyone is enthusiastic about them TBH. NYE parties always seem like a teenage excuse-to-get-smashed thing to me.

I have a 50-year-old colleague who describes NYE parties as the highlight of her year and is already talking about how she's going to go out and get wasted. I find it all a bit sad.

I'm never that enthusiastic about New Year. Even in my partying days it all seemed a bit forced at midnight.

I'm planning to have a nice bath with my new smellies and watching a bit of Jools Holland in my pyjamas. Smile

A bottle of wine and an Indian long before midnight is the extent of our celebrations. Most people I know older than mid twenties don't seem to celebrate it much either.

I work long shifts on New Year's Day every year so its no different to any other day to be honest, I don't go out on NYE any more as I always go to bed early. My DP might go out with his friends but I'll be staying in with a bottle of wine and a takeaway!

We had some fantastic NYE in years gone by (before DC), now after a horrible year, NYE makes me feel rather sad and wistful.
It'll be a take away, bottle of plonk and probably bed before midnight for me. Can't wait until next week when it's all over and can take the decs down too and move forward.

I normally go out (only happens about twice a year) this year I just can't be arsed. Take-away and crap telly is my plan.

If he'll be shopping for, preparing, cooking and clearing away the 'nice meal' then lovely.

Otherwise-he can piss off!

No enthusiasm here either. Might do cinema on NY day for a change. I'd look forward to that!

Thanks all posters...very reassuring!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties - I've always felt the same re. midnight - it does feel a bit forced, even when you go out/are in your young, free and single years. Nowadays, I don't mind making the effort if we're going out for NYE (a rare thing), but can't seem to summon up the enthusiasm if we're staying at home. An early takeaway and a bath sound fabulous, unless OH is willing to create said 'nice meal'!

NYE is always enforced fun. The fun police always seem to be wanting you to do something........it never is fun

I love Hogmanay, but I guess it's a bigger deal in Scotland? I enjoy getting together with family and friends and having a wee drink though.

YANBU!
I have found NYE always to be so pressured. The best celebrations have. Even just chilling with friends in a low key way. Big nights out tend to be expensive and not worth it. Do what makes you happy!!!

I think most of us are fed up with it all now, so will be relieved when the holiday period is over.
I do nothing at new year, usually in bed by 11pm on NYE.

Roll on January 3rd. At least the daylight hours will (gradually) last a little longer :)

Is it really though? I remember it being a huge thing but not any more. I only know of one friend who's going to an organised event. Almost everyone else is staying home - or working! I think the reputation for Hogmanay is something that makes people feel they ought to do something

I do whatever I feel like, each year. This year I want to stay in with the kids as we were running about between relatives all over Christmas and I've been back at work inbetween. We're going to watch movies and play board games. I've told DP we'll drop him off if he wants to go out, but we're staying in. YADNBU. Do what suits you.

I'm not feeling new year this year either. My parents are having the dc and dh and I are meant to be going for a curry with friends then out for drinks afterwards. After being ill in bed most of this week I am not up for drinking at all so I'm going to go for the curry then come home and relish the fact I have an empty house to myself! I will leave my phone on and dh can ring when he wants to be picked up to save on extortionate taxi fares. I'll get a nice lie in too with no dc in the house and no hangover - perfect!

Just another day for us - we don't make New Year resolutions and haven't seen in the new year since DS1 and DS2 were small. Do exactly what you want!

It's not a big thing in Scotland anymore.
Most people I know here are bored with it and a lot of the old traditions of first footing have died out.
I'll be in bed by 10 and waking up to just another day
