AIBU?

AIBU to not want to go for a 2-3 hour walk when I'm 30 weeks pregnant and have pelvic and hip pain?

We are staying at the in laws and the suggestion for today's activity is a long(ish) walk. I skipped the shorter but uphill walk on the day we arrived as I was pretty sore. Yesterday's 40 min walk caused me quite a lot of discomfort. I'm really not in the frame of mind to put on a happy face for today's much longer walk. The route actually sounds nice but I won't enjoy it when every step is sore. There had also been no chat about this before we came to visit so my footwear option is wellies which are not the most supportive. Should I just suck it up or is MIL being a bit thoughtless? I'm quite happy to stay back and read my book while everyone else goes out and enjoys it.

Just say you are not going.

Definitely not being thoughtless at all.

Do what you're comfortable with.

Of course you're not being unreasonable! Just stay at home

YANBU. Just say it - who cares what they think?!

Er are you really considering going ? Surely your dh would want you to stay in the warm and where you're safe , what with being 30 weeks pregnant with his child ?!

God no. If you don't feel your hips can stand it then tell them to have a lovely time and enjoy the rest.

I had terrible hip pain when I was pregnant so I sympathise - my MIL thought I was being lazy because she didn't suffer from it at all when she was pregnant, therefore, it didn't exist. Grin

Don't go if you don't feel up to it - by saying nothing it's only you who will suffer. Just be cheerful and polite when you tell them and say it in a non negotiable way - i.e don't apologise.

Christ no. Surely your partner wouldn't want you to go either? I'm 26 weeks with SPD and while my DH scan be a bit dozy at times he would politely tell his mum that it's not possible for me to do something like that.

Fuck no!
Why on earth would you go?
I'm 31 weeks pregnant and can't walk far at all without getting bad lower back pain.
Yesterday I went for a very short walk and had a long rest on a bench halfway through!
I wouldn't even have done the 40 minute walk.
Is there a back story here?

Yanbu. I'm 35 weeks pregnant and getting up out of chair, bed, bath or pretty much anything is a challenge atm. Not looking forward to school run again. Your mil is very thoughtless

Oh gosh, no, don't go! Are they expecting you to?

Stay behind with your book and some BrewCake

Hell no. I'd have been in agony for days if I'd tried hat. Surely they'll be understanding about it?

No back story, a walk is almost always the activity of choice. The neices (10 and 8 are pretty grumpy about "another walk"!)
My DH is also not really wanting to go so I think we will make an excuse. He did say to me this morning "has mum forgotten your 30 weeks pg?" We are due to be going home today anyway. I know MIL will be a bit pouty about us not joining in. I do actually get on with her, but sometimes she doesn't really think things through properly!

I am 28 weeks with pelvic pain and yesterday I just about managed a 10 minute walk around the block so no YANBU! It's also very icy this morning and you don't want to slip.

I don't think your mil is thoughtless as in disregarding you she probably has no idea it would be a struggle. Just tell them you are not up to it and will be staying at home.

God no, I'm not even pregnant and I wouldn't go!
Walking is not fun, let alone three scheduled walks when you're meant to be visiting with family!

Trifleorbust · 29/12/2016 09:19

Just say no. Or go for the first 20 minutes and then turn back. Totally reasonable.

Report
formerbabe · 29/12/2016 09:19

I can't believe they would be expecting you to go with them. It's absolute madness.

GlitterGlassEye · 29/12/2016 09:21

Pregnant or not, you still really don't have to go if you don't want to.

Whatsername17 · 29/12/2016 09:21

You and your neices should stay in and watch a dvd. I'm 37 weeks tomorrow- no way I'm going walking anywhere.

God no don't go - I ended up on crutches and now have months of physio ahead of me after my second pregnancy due to pushing on through the pain caused by spd during both my pregnancies. They told me if it hurts stop. I've caused myself major problems not following this advice. Enjoy your book.

If you have spd/pgp you could end up making it a lot worse overdoing it with these walks. I was signed off work with it, on crutches with weekly physio and towards the end of pregnancy could just about walk a couple of hundred metres in pain. It's really not worth trying to push through.

Thanks! I feel much better now. I'm going down for breakfast now and I'll be strong and say "No, I'm not coming".

Love the staying in with a DVD suggestion but that would most definitely not be approved of Wink

YANBU. Could you stay in with your feet up while everyone else goes?
Ignore moany MIL. She has obviously forgotten what being pregnant can be like.

Anyway, it is hugely icy out there and I've seen quite a few people fall over so obviously it isn't a safe activity for you right now.
