To ask when you stopped using baby stuff

I know this should probably go somewhere else, but putting it here for the traffic.
DS is 2 in a couple of days (new years eve) and we still use his high chair for all his meals and baby monitor at night.
When are we meant to stop using this stuff? DS is our only child, so we've not had any experience of when to change things.
I'm only just weaning him off his dummy, so I don't want to throw too many changes at once.

There's no rules! We've never used a baby monitor at night, we just leave the doors ajar. Get rid of the high chair when your DS can sit at the table reliably.

DD2 is 2.9 and we still use the video baby monitor.

Stopped using a high chair when she just turned 2, she was using a booster chair at the table until about 3 months ago.

When he was too big for the high chair. About 2 Ishmael. He did need a cushion on his chair at the table for while.

The cot went at 18 months when he pulled the bars so hard he damaged the cot.

We just kind of went with what was happening. No plan based on age as such.

Oh and ds had a monitor that had the mat that you put in the bed that let's yiu know they are breathing. We used that until he was about 3 because it let us know when he had snuck out of bed Grin

Just changed from the high chair to a trip trap chair (which grows with the child but is essentially still a high chair albeit without a tray etc) & still use my video, sound & movement (Blush) monitor on my 2.5yr old. I'm expecting again & will be buying another video monitor for the second child because I intend to use my monitor for some time yet. My bedroom is on a different floor to my DS's though.

Our ds2 has just turned 2.

He still uses his high chair but can almost climb in and out so we'll take the plastic baby inserts out soon (it's a stokke so he can use it as a normal chair now).

We still use baby monitor. With ds1 we used it until he was in a bed so could run into our room if he needed us. Used cot with ds1 till he was just about 3.

Ds2 still uses buggy and sippy cups but we could probably stop soon.

Won't bother potty training till he's 3 (unless he wants to) and planning to go straight to mini toilet seat so will need nappies till then.

My DS is two next month. We stopped using the monitor months ago - although he is a very loud child so no chance of us not hearing him call out if he wakes at night.
We packed away the high chair just before the summer and use one of those booster seats you fit to a regular dining chair instead. It's much more practical and takes less space.

Dd2 is two mid January and we still use the baby monitor as she still wakes consistently during the night and for some reason I don't hear her (house isn't big by any means I just can't hear her without it even when she is crying loudly). We also still use the high chair (a chicco adjustable size/height chair which can be used directly at the table or with the chairs own table), she would not stay at the table long enough to eat anything otherwise - we did try a booster chair but she twists and turns (it only has a waist strap) and nearly threw herself out of the chair - so we will keep using the high chair for a while longer!

Highchair we used for years. Took the tray off it so it could go right up to the table so they were sitting at the table at a nice height. If it works and is safe then carry on. Just keep an eye on weight of child compared to sturdiness of highchair and also the ability to tip it over whilst in it.

My DS refused to use the high chair from about 15m. We used a booster seat for a little while but he didn't like that either. It's a nightmare in restaurants because he can just get down whenever he wants. I'd keep the highchair as long as he will let you/fits in it. We still use the monitor at 2.3.

Dd was 2 just before Christmas. We gave away our high chair at Easter so she was about 18 months . She's never had a cot or baby monitor. My older dc slept in a cot, came out of it between 18m and 2 I think.

DS is 3 years 4 months and we still use the monitor in his room and is still in his cot bed with the sides on Blush However, he is the incredible sleeping child who adores his bed and will sleep for 14 hours straight so I'm keeping things exactly as they are Grin. He doesn't try to climb out so we want to be able to hear him on the odd occasion he wakes in the night. I wear earplugs at night so probably wouldn't hear him with the door left ajar.

We stopped using the high chair at about 2 ish and moved on to a booster seat on a dining chair. He now has a proper chair from Ikea which is designed for children so is smaller in size generally but is taller so he can sit at the table easier. We do try to use a high chair when we go out for meals as we find it stops DS wriggling so much when he is distracted by everything around him.

DD 2y3m. Still using baby monitor in the evenings if we have telly/cooking noise but switch off over night when we're next door. Use cot bed with the side off. Use pushchair for long walks. Use high chair, mainly because we have a breakfast bar and bar stools which require close supervision due to risk of tipping. Have plenty of potties, but still in nappies.

My ds is 20 months and i have just bought a booster. He seems happier in it as he can now properly join us for meals (and pinch his sisters food!). No monitor as I live in a flat so all one level. Still use baby bath etc

Never had a baby bath. They went in sink then big bath.
Never had baby monitor.
Cot varied from never used one to 3.5 years.
Buggy varied a bit but usually out of it by 2.5 years
We had a couple of high chair but they were out of it when they could safely use booster around 2years.

I have a 2 year old and we still put him in a highchair as he can't quite reach the table. Sometimes he sits in a normal chair depending on what he wants to do. Haven't used a baby monitor for a long time though. We have only recently taken the sides off the cotbed.

DS2 is 5 and used his high chair til around a year ago as it was one of those ones which converts into a normal chair, just higher (I want to say Stokke, but no idea). The monitor we hardly used as he was a devil child who never slept, so it became pointless switching on a monitor to tell us that the Dark Lord was once again out of his bed.

The only thing we wasted too much money on was his pushchair; he loved the Ergo sling and hated the pushchair, and as soon as he could walk we totally gave up and let him stomp about the place.

Ds 2.4 is in a bed but only because he kept climbing out of his cot, if I had the choice he would be in it till next year! We have a video monitor and a separate sound one that is a movement one withough the pad attached that is on only to tell us the temp of the room! Ds will come find us chanting 'milk' Hmm

He is no longer in a highchair as he kept standing up in it so is now in a kiddy seat from ikea he gets up and down when he pleases this is very annoying!

He still has a pushchair (i'm not insane) and bottles for morning and night (before bed)

He gave up bibs a while back :( and he has never had a dummy but lots of my friends with kids his age have them too!

We still use the bath thermometer and he has baby towels we could probably do without both but they are convenient and helpful Grin

I think we used the baby monitor until our son was about 4 Blush and he was in the cot bed (sides down) until nearly 5 Blush Blush when we moved him out of the 'nursery' into what was our spare bedroom because I was expecting his brother. He's 6 now and still has a Tommee Tippee First Cup at night because it doesn't spill in his bed Blush Blush Blush He never had a dummy so we dodged a bullet there.

His brother is 16 months and uses a high chair (we have to strap him in otherwise he'd climb out) and has a dummy and still uses bottles for milk, although I'm thinking we ought to stop that.

DD is 4 in Feb and we still use the monitor. She sleeps well, I think it's because I'm emetophobic and need to know she's ok.

High chair went around age 2, buggy also. Baby bath was used til about 18m because it saved water!

I reckon it was about 3 for most things. DS is 8 now so my memory might not be the best! But we had:

Cot - used until 2 when he couldn't fit into it any more. Went to single bed, half co-sleeping at first.

Car seat - moved to forward facing one at about 18 months and booster at 4ish, still using though if we were in the UK he'd be allowed out of one now. Because of this I've relaxed massively about him being transported in others' cars without one.

High chair - had a booster seat thing. We used this for ages because we didn't have a proper table but he was probably about 3 when he started eating on the sofa with a little table.

Pushchair - didn't drive so used this regularly until he started nursery and got used to walking there + back every day, he had very good road sense and has never deviated from that. I think we kept it until 3.5ish for one off very long walks but rarely needed it.

Can't remember when I stopped using a monitor, probably when he stopped waking up at night? He might have been 2.5ish.

We stopped using the high chair when the kids were about 2 and a half. The listening half of the baby monitor broke down when they were 3 and a half so we didn't replace it. The bit that does the white noise and the star projection is still going strong at 4 and a half.

  1. Dsd was eating meals at the table by then.

I don't use a high chair unless dd wants to be in it, she's 18 month. But I also do t have a dining table so we just sit on the floor in the living room. Baby monitor I still use as cant hear her otherwise, she's In a toddler bed with no sides and hasn't yet realised she can climb out when she wakes. But don't want to risk not being able to hear her that first time as I can't secure the top of my stairs
