I cried too. I didn't actually grow up with her. I fell in love with her a few years ago. Such a personality, she really lived and was alive with joy and humour and mischief. I sat watching her only last week on 8 out of ten cats in stitches at how funny she was. Such a loss.

It's been relentless. She was great fun on Catasrophe as well. Her daughter isn't very old. I was expecting it to be honest after what happened on the plane. Such a funny wise woman RIP

YABU. You never knew the woman. I saw people on TV today sobbing outside George Michaels house, forcing their toddlers to lay flowers for the cameras (one of my pet hates). Ridiculous.
Of course it's sad, 60 is no age. 53 (for George), again very sad. Will you still be grieving them in a week, I doubt it.

YANBU. Actors touch a lot of people's lives and we relate to them because they cause emotional reactions in us. And Star Wars is such an important part of a lot of people's lives.

maddie a week ago, I would have shared some of your views. I wouldn't have put it so bluntly but would have had a slight nod of agreement.

But then 2 nights ago, I found myself shedding a tear or three over the death of George Michael. He was my first celebrity crush at the age of 9. I loved his music from the very beginnings of Wham. Was devastated when my parents said that I wasn't allowed to join the hordes of teenage girls from my big sister's school who were going along to a big warehouse to be in their video. It turned out to be the video for "Wake me up before you Go-Go".

Throughout my pre teens, my clothing was styled on Wham and Pepsi and Shirley. I loved them all, including Andrew.

I can sing along to a George written sing with the best of them. I have loved his music for over 30 years. I last saw him live in 2007.

I have never shed a tear over the death of a celebrity before. But for George, there are many. And yes, it is a bit like grieving. I'm sure I will still shed a tear or two next week, next month and so on.

Not because he was a celebrity. But because he was part if the fabric of my childhood and teenage years. Someone who I always admired from afar. I am not one for public out pouring of grief but respect that for some, this is an important outlet.

Frenchmind you feel what you feel. Have always loved Star Wars and CF was fab. Gone far, far too soon.

I wouldn't cry as I wasn't really familiar with Star Wars having only seen the first one when I was about 7 and none after that.

YABU and absolutely ridiculous!

People die all day every day. Many of them very wonderful. Celebrities are nothing special and just because you saw someone in a film once/they sung your favourite Christmas song/etc is no reason to get so upset. Their contribution to your life, i.e. the movie/song, will still be there, nothing will change, therefore the effects on your life are extremely minimal and do not warrant such a reaction.

I have been crying too. It's easy to forget in these days of Hunger Games and Frozen that when some of us were small, she was IT in terms of female heroes. She did a huge amount for women, for people with mental health problems, her writing was fantastic and I feel the world, although richer for having known her, is poorer now she has gone.
